Description Yeah I keep mentioning that my water fairies live under the sea...but they're in shallow waters anyway so some communities like building their houses above the sea as well

Just a random concept drawing XD

Wow you sure know how to draw scenes of the ocean and underwater really well!

I've always been wondering how to portray the world setting for my story which takes place in a city built on the treetops of Yggdrasil. Perhaps you can give me some clues?

Thanks XD

The main thing about designing a world setting, in particular for a story, is how the plot flows.

What/who do you want your main character to encounter?
Where do they travel and what are the impacts of the locations on them, whether its encountering certain dangers or learning new things?
What elements in the world will drive the plot (important objects, places, people)?

With the flow of the plot, you can design those things to fit the story, and then the side stuff that makes the world feel immersive will follow suit, like the people or creatures living in the world, architecture etc.

Asking 'why' often while in the design process is important. Why are certain tools designed this way (better grip, ornate carvings that show cultural origins), why are buildings designed the way they are (stability on the tree branches, harness wind energy etc), why do people wear certain clothes. There's a lot you can explore!

It helps to scour for art/media references of treehouses, cities in the sky, and even interesting facts about Yggdrasil and other Nordic mythology in general XD

Thank you so much for your advice!

I did have plenty of world settings and story plot laid out already but I think there's still lots more to work on XD

I'll go over more details and I might send you a note once I'm able to put everything together.

Again, many thanks for your input!
