SO this game is AMAZING!! I feel like BotW really captures the feeling of exploration and discovery in the way people have been wanting from Zelda all these years. It's amazing how much there is to find and how many different ways there are to approach problems and interact with the environment, it's a lot more realistic now and feels so much like really exploring!

(Even after SS I'm still not used to not rolling everywhere anymore, though.)

I'm not very far in the game because I keep getting distracted taking screenshots (and already having to dodge spoilers everywhere), but the first thing I did after leaving the cave--which was an amazing moment that reminded me of how the very first game begins, and was glorious to see with the new scenery--was cross the ridge above the old man and circle the monsters poking them with a tree branch till they dropped their weapons for me to use, then visit the Temple of Time and clear out one of the skull dens by firing arrows from above, and bomb down the rocks blocking the nearby shrine by lugging one of the TNT barrels all the way over there.

Someone else I know started by taking the woodcutter's axe and going downhill from the old man, cutting down a bunch of trees and stealing a bow from the monsters in the area, running along the cliffs and finding the quest objective by accident without even stopping by the temple first. I really enjoy how much freedom there is to take your own path, and how unobtrusive the quest objectives feel this time around.

(I do miss the old style of overworld music, but I'm mostly busy being overwhelmed by the awesome scenery and sense of exploration, and definitely loving to see the Koroks and other shoutouts to earlier games return!)
