AG trophy #61

I support Kiko Lake every year in the Altador Cup (except for the one time they were excluded from the game, where I supported Maraqua and wrote a six-part Neopian Times story about Team Kiko Lake to make up for it). One thing that’s really confusing when all your players are Kikos, though, is when you end up having to play against another team that has a Kiko on it; whenever we were up against Lost Desert, I kept accidentally passing to the opponent because of that.

Nice. I'm for Shenkuu myself, even though we're no good anymore and likely never will be for various reasons (all our good players are left due to some drama a few years ago, a ton of weeaboos probably join the team for obvious reasons and don't do anything, All-Star groups know to avoid large teams like the plague and that joining small teams will make them virtually unbeatable, etc.). xD

FWIW, I seriously think Kiko Lake wins the Cup this year, but only because I have a feeling one of the major All-Star groups will join you guys. You guys impressed the heck out of me last year.

Shenkuu is one of the coolest Neopian worlds; it's a shame about what's happened to the team, but I'd love to see you guys make a comeback at some point, so good on you for your dedication. KL was bottom-tier for years, but I've been incredibly proud of how we've been doing lately.

Thank you! It would be great to have an All-Star group on board this year, but we'll see what happens when the time comes. It's always been about the fun and not the competition for me, so I don't care who wins or not, but it's a great feeling whenever we manage to pull together and surprise people.

I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. We're too big, and the trend is heading toward dominant small teams, like Kiko Lake and Tyrannia. It's also nice to see someone who doesn't hate us. We've had a lot of drama in the past (still do), and people avoid us like the plague because of it. That, and the weeaboo thing I mentioned probably pushes the elite players away.
However, we won't finish in 16th again, I'm pretty sure about that. We got into all hard brackets last year, so we didn't have much of a chance.

Kiko Lake's always come across as a nice group, too, though. I've talked to you guys on the boards. Then again, the only teams I've had negative experiences with are Krawk Island and (surprisingly) Mystery Island.

I honestly don't care who wins, either, especially since TNT made it so the trophies we get reflect our rank, so even those who don't win get a nice trophy if they do well enough. I just like having fun with the Shenkuu group on the Neoboards. We make up RPs and stuff to inspire us to play.

Heh, I can't hate an entire group due to some members causing bad publicity. I think Shenkuu's a cool world, and it's a shame about the drama, but that's not the whole team's fault. Admittedly I don't spend a huge amount of the boards, though; I usually just pop in on the KL board sometimes around the beginning of the cup. I've always liked the attitude of sportsmanship as well and that's probably one reason I've been so loyal to the team (besides just liking Kikos); I'm glad you've had good experiences. Everyone I've talked to on the boards has always been pretty friendly, but I've also never gone out of my way to talk to a lot of other teams.

That's really cool that you guys make up RPs! Definitely one of the more creative motivators I've heard of. I mostly just try to watch videos while playing.

And while I can't say I'm completely fond of Kiko Lake, it's not the world I hate the most, either. In fact, if you live in the US,
it reminds me of my own state, right up to the lake part (Michigan ). A lot of it looks like the place I go to for the 4th of July. Well, except there's no coral, but you get the point. xD
Eh, the boards are all trollish now anyway. There's this one guy named winfestors who really annoys me, for example. You're better off by avoiding them, trust me.

Same. I got into watching LPs by doing that.

I can imagine why that would be confusing. I'm always for Team Kreludor! Because, Grundos. But anyway, nice job with this, love the perspective!

Also, I wanted to let you know that I'm currently in the process of trying to get back on Neopets--only problem is, I cannot for the life of me remember my password, and the email associated with the account no longer exists. I sent in a support ticket explaining the situation and giving them my new email, so...fingers crossed, I'll get access to my account back (it miraculously does still exist, I checked). If not (and I hope this won't be the case, because I actually miss my pets a lot), I'll create a new account. But either way, I'm coming back!

aquanut In reply to surfersquid [2013-03-11 13:08:29 +0000 UTC]

Kreludor is awesome and so are Grundos. I'm surprised Kreludor hasn't won yet, to be honest; they generally perform really well. Hey, it'd be cool if they won in the year you came back to Neo! (And thanks!)

Thanks for letting me know; it'd be great to have you back! I really hope you can get access to your old account again; I'm not sure how long it takes to get a response to those support tickets, but I'll be crossing my fingers as well. I'm glad your account is still around, though; maybe having creative trophies helps you look like an active participant. Even if you do create a new account, at least your old pets are still out there, and no matter what the situation is you can always make up stuff about them (or recreate them on the new account).

Neopets is currently having a war event where people chose one of six factions that were revealed at the start though cool little mini-videos and everyone's been battling opponents from the other teams, ostensibly to be the first to get to the mysterious obelisk that appeared in Tyrannia. I'm on the Seekers team, which is a group of scientific researchers (i.e. nerds) and consistently gets the coolest Battledome opponents IMO. (Assistant Scientist , Smug Philosopher , Stalwart Explorer , and Genius Inventor ... but the character designs for the BD opponents in this event have more or less all been really cool; I've been liking the characters in this event even though there's been virtually no story so far.) I think it's too late now to join a faction (we're on wave 4 out of 5 of BD opponents), but I'm hoping there'll be a plot comic and puzzles after the BDing is over and the obelisk gets claimed. TNT keeps filling the event with references to memes and things, including this running joke about there being cake inside the obelisk. (On the scorecard where it shows your battle record, it ends the description of each wave of fighters with these sentences respectively: "Looks like this war is going to be a piece of cake." "You may as well join in. There could be free cake." "Skilled raiders surge across the battlefield, wreaking havoc in their wake. The cake, incidentally, is not free. We lied." "Highly trained elites have exploded into action, leaving lesser forces stunned. This is serious. There isn't even a rumor of cake out there." This has the effect of making me want to put Portal references in the titles of all my war art AG doodles. )

ooooh I forgot about my nifty Shenkuu site theme

Ooooh awesome! I love the Neo site themes, but I've pretty much never changed mine--I've been using the Curse of Maraqua one ever since the themes were introduced (with a brief switch to Altador at one point, because I love Altador). Was the last time you played before they had the huge site overhaul that got rid of the sidebar? I just had a nostalga rush remembering what the site themes used to look like. I've almost forgotten what it was like to have the sidebar.

surfersquid In reply to aquanut [2013-03-11 19:53:35 +0000 UTC]

I just really like the look of the Shenkuu theme; that was the last event before I left and I liked the characters and stuff. I'd love to figure out how to obtain more themes, though--it looks like the only ones I have right now besides the basic ones are Curse of Maraqua, Shenkuu, Altador Cup, and Qasala.

I went on hiatus in early 2007 (so like, almost exactly six years ago), shortly after the huge overhaul, which was actually one of my main reasons for leaving (because I was younger and didn't believe in change ), besides the fact that all of my friends who also used the site had drifted away from it over the years. Without that small community element, I felt disconnected. So your Neofriending me actually made me really happy; thanks for that.

Haha, I remember the old layout! That is some great nostalgia.

aquanut In reply to surfersquid [2013-03-11 20:28:10 +0000 UTC]

Shenkuu is a very cool world. Are we talking about the Cyodrake's Gaze plot? I really liked that one too; the characters were fun. Here's a page showing all the site themes: [link] Most of the themes are given away during plot events and aren't obtainable anymore, unfortunately. But maybe you'll be able to get one from the war somehow. I have a bunch of themes from past plot participation, but I was so happy with the first one I got (Maraqua was my first plot, I think) that I never paid much attention to trying to get more.

Wow, I can hardly believe it's been that long since the revamp. I was just looking at old site images and saw one of those banners that used to be at the top of every page and was struck by nostalgia because I'd completely forgotten about them. I don't remember exactly what my reaction to the revamp was; I wasn't happy about the change either, but I think I just kind of threw up my hands and accepted it, and now I'm used to it. And I'm glad to have had the honor of welcoming you back to Neopets! It's great to have you around again.

Haha, it really is. I love seeing sites that keep archives of all Neo's old art and seeing how much things have changed. I also like that Neo occasionally does shoutouts to their past as well, like how you can buy a customization item that gives your pet the old circle background on its lookup. xD

surfersquid In reply to aquanut [2013-03-11 20:35:46 +0000 UTC]

I didn't get very much into that plot because I left a little after I began, but it sure looked fun. Ooh, thanks! Looks like there were a lot of plots I missed out on...shame, but I won't let that happen again!

Yeah, it really doesn't seem like that long ago to me, either, even though now I realize...it was. I might have been more accepting of the layout change if I'd still had friends on the site, but oh well. There were other things I needed to do with my life for a while, I think. I'm glad you welcomed me back! There's a friend of mine who was thinking about getting back into Neopets too, so now that I have my account back, he has no excuse not to join my madness.

Same here, looking at that progression is really fun. Haha, that's awesome!

aquanut In reply to surfersquid [2013-03-12 00:22:41 +0000 UTC]

It was, I liked the way it was arranged as a logic puzzle that you figured out by comparing everyone's retellings of the same events. The comics for the old plots are still available to read, even though you can't participate anymore--there's The Return of Doctor Sloth here and The Faeries' Ruin here . I have to check to see what the other plots were; I wasn't super actve in plots for a while either. Tale of Woe was the last one I was really active in, and that was several years ago.

Yeah, sometimes it's important to take a break for a while; I'm just glad you were able to come back. And yes, your friend should definitely come back too. See if he'll join the Seekers; we can always use more recruits. xD

Ooh, thanks! I was semi-active in Tale of Woe...I think. I'm surprised at what I can and can't remember from those days. I'm actually having a lot of fun in the new Battledome (and I love that you actually get prizes for winning now)--I'm glad I bothered to train Hyren a good deal!

I asked him about it and he said he needed to "minimize distractions"...but I'll see if I can't keep wheedling.

I just remember I loved grave-digging and seeing all these other people's pets, despite feeling creepy about the idea of what we were supposedly doing. It was strangely really fun to organize get-togethers among NTWFers and get everyone digging at the same grave, or to meet new people by digging with them, or see people switching their active pet throughout the digging session and admire all the different pets.

I'm glad you're enjoying the new BD; I really like it too! The prizes are indeed a great bonus, especially the codestones and faeries; I like the fact that the BD gives you rewards that help you get better at the BD, almost like actual experience. I wish I'd trained Sparkler more, but she's been able to hold her own fairly well against all but the latest wave on medium and hard. This might be more my fault for not knowing the best strategies, though, as everything got much easier when I finally started using the new faerie abilities.

Haha, good luck with that. Not to encourage anyone else to lose their productivity today or anything. xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

surfersquid In reply to aquanut [2013-03-12 01:07:16 +0000 UTC]

I don't think I did much grave-digging, I'm sorry (maybe?) to say. I'm excited to get to participate in more events, though.

Yeah, that's super helpful. I'm really liking the new Faerie abilities, too!

xD I see nothing wrong with encouragements to lose productivity...

aquanut In reply to surfersquid [2013-03-12 01:53:26 +0000 UTC]

Grave-digging was fun, in spite of the creepiness of the concept. xD I also remember mixing potions and visiting the creepy Meepit Oaks sanitorium. xD I'm finding a lot of my memories of the old plots are really spotty as well, though. I need to go back and reread all the comics because I don't even remember most of the stories.

So far I've mostly been using the An Icicle ability; it seems to improve my damage considerably and I like the fact it's a water faerie ability. xD Maybe I'll eventually spend money on light faeries to get Lens Flare too, but I'm just doing this wave on easy anyway so I don't think I need it right away.

surfersquid In reply to aquanut [2013-03-12 02:16:40 +0000 UTC]

I don't think I actually actively participated in that plot much, but now I wish I had. xD

Haha, I need to save up more blessings! I wish stat training didn't take so long, though.

aquanut In reply to surfersquid [2013-03-12 03:12:38 +0000 UTC]

Me too; Lens Flare is going to be my next goal, but the light faeries are expensive so I'm hoping I can eventually just win them from the BD. I wish stat training didn't take so long as well, but mostly I wish I hadn't always been so lazy about doing it and had done more of it throughout this year. Oh well, maybe I needed a war to motivate me to remember.

Haha, thanks. Yep, it's still around--I keep entering my username into the search bar to make sure. (I'm cosmicfire918 on there, by the way.) I don't know why it hasn't been purged yet, but maybe they do give people with creative trophies a grace period. xD I'm just happy it's still there, even if I can't get into it! A friend of mine tried to get his account back a short while ago and said it took them two weeks to get back to his ticket...I'm really hoping it doesn't take that long for me. Especially because I've been having recurring dreams about remembering my password and/or playing on the site again.

Oooh, sounds interesting! Oh wow, I would definitely have joined the Seekers too. They look awesome. Haha, good old TNT. I've always enjoyed their sense of humor. (I'm sure they'd appreciate the Portal references. )

aquanut In reply to surfersquid [2013-03-11 17:39:50 +0000 UTC]

Funnily enough, I actually managed to remember your username the other day--I wanted to look it up because you were talking about it and I used to know it because of your stories in the NT that I read before I met you, and I was sitting there thinking, "What was it? Meteorfire? No, cosmicfire, and three numbers... ahh, I'll never remember the numbers," but then for some reason I thought "918" and when I typed it in I was really surprised I'd remembered it correctly. And then this evening I saw I had a Neofriend request and I thought it was because some random person had seen my Neo art somewhere, but then I recognized your username and I got really excited that you'd gotten back into your account and immediately came here to check your responses. I'm so glad you got back in--looks like your dreams came true!

I love TNT's sense of humor too. xD I hope the Art Gallery updates tonight because I actually did send in an entry with a Portal reference in the title last Friday. I wish I'd submitted in time to catch last week's war-themed AG special, but hopefully people are still sending in enough war art that they'll put another page up. And I just realized I actually don't know if it's too late to join or not; you might still be able to. Try going to the Tyrannian obelisk and see what happens.

I occasionally strike up conversations with other entrants, but I've never managed to find much sense of an AG community, and I wish there were one. I'm sure you'd have no trouble getting in!

Awesome, I'm so glad! Seekers FTW! And yes, here is a page explaining all the achievements: [link]

I'll be sure to give it a try, then! Maybe it's something I can do after I finish these picture challenges...or even sooner, if I manage to somehow make a Neopets picture out of a prompt. Oooh, thank you! That's much appreciated.

Would you happen to know if it's okay to be logged on to your account on multiple devices? I'd love to go on Neopets on my tablet, but I'm not sure if the site mods would freak out if they saw an account being accessed from two different places at once (even if it was from the same IP address). I have my own computer and tend to leave myself logged in to everything on it, so I don't know how good I would be about remembering to log out every time I thought I might be accessing my account from somewhere else.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

aquanut In reply to surfersquid [2013-03-11 22:11:32 +0000 UTC]

Awesome! Making a Neopets picture out of a prompt sounds like a great idea. You're welcome!

There was an Editorial answer about that a while ago:

Logging onto your account from multiple places is fine. We know that even though we rarely leave the office, most people enjoy going places like "outside" and "to their Grandma's house" and such. While we find it quite strange, it's not unheard of. Feel free to play Neopets wherever you go.

So it should be okay. I've never understood how Neo can tell whether login activity is suspicious or not, but I'll take their word that they don't mind people logging in from different places. (I always leave myself logged in as well; it's just so much easier than having to retype my password every time. Of course, then I forget half of my passwords because I never practice them. )

Ahh, that sounds like an ideal game to play Neopets in tandem with. Games that don't let you turn off battle animations test my patience, which is the one thing I'm not happy with about the new Battledome, especially since the animations run slowly on my computer; I hope they give us a way to turn that off at some point. But it does provide a nice excuse to multitask.
