I keep my eyes on the horizon,

Unmoved by the landscape parade.

I stare into space for some reason,

To mute the winter growing inside.

xEtherealGrace In reply to Is-it-traced [2014-06-27 01:24:25 +0000 UTC]

Pardon my asking, but you do realize the difference between tracing and referencing/being inspired by something, yes? If not, let me give you a quick compare and contrast.

The definition of tracing is as follows: "a copy of a drawing, map, or design made by tracing it," meaning that they basically take an original image, place it beneath a piece of paper or on a lower layer, and follow the outlines of it.

The definition of a reference is "the use of a source of information in order to ascertain something," meaning that while the artist may have a piece that looks like another certain picture, is isn't traced.

Here's a referenced base model, and here's the reference.  You can see that even though they look similar, there are still some differences that tell you that the base wasn't traced. For instance, look at the face, chest, waist, hips, head angle, and slight differences in arm shape. You can see that even though these inconsistencies may be near-insignificant, they are enough to set them apart.

Here's a traced base model,  and here's the original picture.  You can tell that while there are tiny differences, mainly line quality caused by the base model being in pixels, it's obviously the exact same picture. The facial expression, flower, hand, and body shape are all the same. There are also a few faults in the base such as her left (or to us right) arm, caused by the original image having a dress obscuring it and the base maker not havong enough skill to know what the arm should look like.

Now that I've shown you the difference between the two, I hope it's very obvious that this picture was inspired/referenced, not traced. It even says so in the description, but since you deemed it traced anyways, I'm going to link you to the inspiration anyways and point out the plethora of differences. Here's the inspiration.  Can you see any differences? Probably not, since you thought it was traced. Here, let me point them out.

The reflection in the window, the environment outside the bus, the seat, and the background are all abstract things that are different. Moving on the the actual girl... The facial arrangement, shirt, hair, pose, angle, and arm are all different. If this was traced, the two pictures would be the same give or take a few small errors.

The artist has also linked a video of her making this picture in which you can see she never traced it, only referenced it.

Also, as a side note, do you think you could include link of what exactly you think people have traced their work from? Or at least give an argument for why you think so? Getting a random comment that basically says "Hey you, I think that this piece was traced," which to most artists, especially the exceedingly talented ones you accuse of tracing, means "Hello, I believe you've performed one of the lowest, laziest, most absolutely disgusting things an artist could ever do and I have no proof or argument as it is my opinion you aren't worth the time. Ta-ta~" is very insulting.

I hope this very long comment has somehow gotten through to you and that I have not in anyway insulted you as that was not my intent. Thanks for your time and have a nice day.

Clearly a very meaningful and engaging picture, which is not unusual for you.

I'm sure those who look out the window, or into space, may try to mute out those chilling things that may make them sad or difficult. If I am allowed to say it would be wonderful if such things could be broken, or by looking out that window things are calming and not just an escape.

This is just amazing, as usual. I didn't notice the frost effects clearly on her hair at first. It's really cool.

I feel so cold ; v ;'' Beautifully done btw c:

A bit of feedback: Though, I wonder about that part near the collarbone?

-Instead of snowy, or icy... it looks incomplete. I'd say for that kind of white there'd need to be a bright light somewhere (it looks more like reflected light vs omitting light kinda thing). But she's on a bus staring out the window.

-It might be how the ice bulges from her chest, but the top (the incomplete looking area) doesnt show too much sign of it bulging out from her chest. Though I think you meant it to slope into it, but there isnt much visible shading... At least viewing regularly lol.

When I color test something I push my laptop screen back which reveals a lot of the invisible coloring and shading. I must say the detailing and hard work you put into this piece is amazing. Love the work, keep it up! And good luck on future projects c: Cheers!
