I'm not sure if it's what was intended here, but the idea of the baby's future cutie mark showing up on the mother is quite an interesting idea. ^^

I don't think it's true at all, it's just a stupid rumor. Besides, IMO, who'd want to kill off Firefly? She's too good of a character. I dunno why fans wanna do stuff like that sometimes...

Firefly as Rainbow's mom mostly comes from Lauren Faust saying she'd love it if Firefly was her mom. Though because of the characters' similarity, more than one fan has come to the idea on their own. But we don't get the identity of her mom from the show at all.
Which means her mom could just as easily be one of the mares on either side of the dad in that two-second flashback that gives us his appearance (and nothing else about him.)
In other words, we don't truly know for sure who she is, let alone what happened to her. Or that anything happened to her! She may have even been present but unknown to us in the flashback. However, fans like everything dark so "no positive confirmation of her mom in that two-second flashback" = "dead." Just like Scootaloo being orphan or abuse victim because we haven't seen her family yet. (keep in mind there was a similar fanon about Rarity until we met her and Sweetie Belle's folks.)
In short, don't believe everything you hear on the net, even though it all makes for interesting fanfic.

I've actually heard someone say both G4 and G1 takes place in 2 parallel worlds.
In my headcanon though when I will start to write fanfics, Firefly is still around as Rainbow's mom, and she'll probably adopt Scootaloo as both a daughter/sister (and there will even be the Baby Firefly from G1).
I dunno why fans like everything dark like that though; to me, saying G1 ponies are around but are now dead is disrespectful to the old generations in a way.

Dashie shows us she's got more maturity than she often shows, now and again. I think she could handle adopting Scoots herself. Of course, Scoots calls her "Aunt Firefly" 'cause Firefly feels she's too young to be "grandma."
But your idea gives us more of Firefly, which is a good thing.
(What's funny is, Scoots needing anyoneΒ to adopt her is right along the lines of what I just said, where we don't need to assume that she's living in a cardboard box somewhere just 'cause her parents haven't been shown yet. However, if it's true, you can have one of the main characters take her in and it's just too cute an idea to let go of.)

Well, many people have their first child in their twenties, so Firefly wouldn't necessarily be as old as Granny Smith or anything. Twilight Velvet and Night Light just have a wrinkle or two.

After they succeeded in sending Rainbow Blitz's Unicorn sister and her dragon boyfriend to Skylands...thanks to Faust. These two Pegasi settled down and are now expecting a daughter. But Blitz seems to wonder about his sister, he and Firefly saved her from a miserable life and returned with an egg before going back to Skylands. They both knew that the egg concieved their niece or nephew. What this couple didn't know that sometime in the future, their daughter will cross paths with their Hybrid niece and meet each other for the first time.
