Description

Just the other day I was walking in the shallows, in a little run-off area right next to the river, where the current was barely noticeable. I was looking, and trying to catch small fish for my little water snake, when, "Oh my god, is that a turtle?!" I looked down into the water, and right below a floating leaf sat this little guy, I saw the outline of the shell. I honestly am not sure I was that good at sneaking, but I manged to get close enough to crouch down and scoop it up with the tiny little net I had acquired at the bait shop (I do mean tiny, its like a net you'd use for aquarium fish.) I was so super excited, hadn't a clue if I had actually scooped it up at first, because I got a whole bunch of sand/mud with it. But yes, the turtle was there!

This is the same species as the older male turtle I caught earlier this year, the shortly named Scute(s).

This one's shell seemed a little awkwardly bent, which suggests it may have just emerged from its egg not long ago. A little "soft around the edges"

Thinking I'll call her/him Squirtle. She already ate pellet food and dried krill for me. Next important thing I'll need to do is get that snake rack (getting a job would help get it faster) to free up a tank, and then get a nice filter system.

Cute
My parents have a bunch of these in there pond. Each year there are more of them (I am sure some are babies from them breeding) and where never sure how they got there, even the first ones that appeared kind of just showed up one day and never left.

They're usually pretty squished-looking after coming out of the egg. Shells still a bit soft after being wet from the fluid and all. Which is what makes them delectable meals for any predator seeking out a turtle nest.

But no, the squished part is probably due to the angle of the camera mostly
