This piece is an alternate work detail taken from the 5 foot full size poster illustration for 'Far East Showdown,' a feature length Manga I have in-production.

About DO, Digital Oil Painting:

This particular piece and its lineage works are created using Digital Oil Painting, a computer art technique I first developed in the late 1990's and have been refining ever since. DO is a method of hand painting by which oil painters can adapt their manual brush skills to digital software platforms like PS, to produce results that faithfully recreate that of oil on canvas.

My motivation to create DO was that it should be an alternative medium to empower analog artists to be able to retain and use their hand painting skill sets within digital mediums, rather than having to place the machine protocols of art creation software first (and their own native talents secondary).

Though there is no doubt that computer art software and AI can deliver technically perfect visual content, art software programs are incapable of capturing those elements of human hand work (brush strokes, color mixing, the visual cognitive abilities of organic beings for example) which make analog art what it by definition is- an accurate representation of what it is to be human.

About this piece, 'Portrait of Li Li West'

It began as an original AI assisted creation, next given a complete hand repaint by myself using DOL, then a final light AI assisted enhancement.

'Li Li' is the lead villain in the Far East Showdown Saga. With her cynical smirk, quick to anger flushing face and eyes glittering like target acquired laser sight settings, this is not the girl to run into in any bar...Western or otherwise...
