Description
Aries (♈︎) is the first of the astrological signs in the zodiac, and, of course, a Fire sign. In Greek Mythology, the symbol of the ram is based on the Chrysomallus, the golden-wooled, winged ram that rescued Phrixus and Helle, the children of the Boeotian king Athamas, and provided the Golden Fleece.

The fleece is a symbol of authority and kingship and it figures in the tale of the hero Jason and his crew of Argonauts, who set out on a quest for it by order of King Pelias, in order to place Jason rightfully on the throne of Iolcus in Thessaly. Through the help of Medea (a Colchis princess and a sorceress), they finally acquire the Golden Fleece. The story is one of the most famous and amazing ones from Greek mythology and was current in the time of Homer (eighth century BC). It survives in various forms, among which the details vary, but I absolutely recommend to read the one from Robert Graves: "The Golden Fleece". I loved it!
