Description
New Zealand Native Pigeon. Known more commonly as the "Wood Pigeon"Great eating by all accounts, but they are protected.
A pair of these can strip a small kowhai tree in a couple of weeks. I know this, because years ago, I had to put chimes up to stop them killing our small tree!

They are big and beautiful. They also make a loud noise when they fly! Branches bend under their weight. A wonderful bird.
We also have the regular version of pigeon. I like them too.

It certainly is. Also large. They eat so much and travel widely in their mating pairs to fill up. I really like them, but I didn't want our kowhai tree killed! Β
