Shimmer had been on a casual stroll through town when he noticed a crowd gathering, at the center of the crowd he could spot Maxwell, looking his usual serious self.
Did something happen? Shimmer wondered, coming closer to the group of kwillians. The crowd consisted of adults and children alike, all anticipating Maxwell' announcement.
"Ah good, plenty of you showed up," He began as the crowd hushed. Shimmer took a seat on the ground on the furthest side of the crowd, while they were far from Maxwell, he was loud when he spoke, so there was no difficulty hearing him. Shimmer was always impressed with the authority and confidence Maxwell held himself at. There seemed to be no uncertainty in this kwillian's body anymore, he was tough, tall, and good looking too, despite all the scars he bore. Shimmer had heard some remaking on Maxwell's scars before, but personally he thought they looked rather cool.
"They're both convinced someone stole their artifact, which means someone must have. We just need to find out the truth behind who did it."
Come to think of it, Shimmer had noticed more commotion in the shops today, though they had no idea it was Bits and Bobbles fighting with each other. He didn't want to seem nosy, so he hadn't gone to investigate, though now he had to admit he felt like maybe he'd missed out. Shimmer didn't talk or interact much with other kwillians outside their family, so it was always interesting to see what others were doing.
Maxwell informed the crowd of a list of people to investigate, people who either could have info on the missing artifact, or other info on a mysterious shadowy figure that had been spotted around town and the woods. He said he'd need the help of every kwillian here to talk to people around town and come up with clues, if they were to find anything, they should report back to him. I guess now is a better time than ever to get to meet more kwillians in town... Shimmer thought to himself, though he felt a little apprehensive about it. Maybe it would be good to start with someone he knew was friendly, to warm up his social skills for the rest of the day.
Shimmer thought through the list of townsfolk he could talk to, and resolved to start out with Jackson Vinare, the town doctor. Shimmer knew Jackson was a nice guy, one who liked to talk to children too, especially if they weren't too rambunctious, not to mention doctors were just cool! Shimmer couldn't help but feel a little excited as he made his way down the clinic. Hopefully Jackson wasn't too busy today, or talking to another interviewer...
Only one way to find out. Shimmer told himself as he stepped through the clinic doors. The halls were quiet as he made his way through the building, heading towards an open door with lots of natural light shining through it. Jackson had to be here.
Sure enough, he was, the brown kwillian was labeling some bottles on the counter in front of him, with his back turned to the door.
"Hello, Jackson?" Shimmer began in an awkward questioning tone. Jackson glanced over his shoulder with a somewhat startled expression, before turning around with a smile.
"Oh hey, didn't hear you come in. Is there something you need?" Jackson asked cordially, closing a bottle he held in his hand which contained a blue liquid. Shimmer tried to put on a pleasant face and hoped Jackson couldn't see him blushing. He always liked seeing Jackson in town, the way the kwillian moved with such assiduity and effortlessness, it reminded him of a gentle breeze, or a calm river.
"Uhmm..." Shimmer looked at his feet as he tried to think of what he was going to say next.
"Maxwell he, well I and some other kwillians... Something's gone missing." He felt himself getting exceedingly shy as he tried to talk under Jackson's steady gaze.
"Missing?" Jackson sounded intrigued. He set the bottle he was holding down on the counter.
"Bits and Bobble. Their artifact or something... And then there's a figure?"
"Huh, I sure must've missed something while I was making potions, did Maxwell send you here for something?" Jackson was sure to keep his voice sociable while he tried to lead the conversation in an easier direction.
"Well Maxwell said we should ask questions to people who might know anything." Shimmer said, trying to meet Jackson's eyes. Jackson's face softened, and he leaned back against the counter behind him.
"Then ask away!"

I thought it would be fun to get in the feeling of fall spirit by sitting down and doing some Spectres Haunt event prompts! I also decided to listen to some spooky/halloweeny music while drawing this, because why not! It's been so hot and dry this summer, I'm just going to vibe with the coming colder seasons, even if they aren't quite here yet~~!
I actually had a lot of fun drawing this, Jackson's a really cute NPC, and I decided to draw Shimmer because I LOVE them!! I leaned into subtly spooky clinic vibes by making everything kind of dark inside the building, but also they don't have electricity, so it's not exactly uncharacteristic! I imagine there is a window off/in front of the screen, which is providing most of the light in the room!
I had A LOT of fun writing this story, it's super epic to get into the mind of Shimmer and explore their personality more, because they're my precious baby and I (again) LOVE them! It was also fun to think about Glyphith life and stuff, as well as include some references to the event cut-scenes in the discord, since that was pretty fun to read too! Just a fun spooky time~~ I may have only completed one prompt so far, but who's to say I won't do more later? I hope I can at least do three, but we shall see where my motivation takes me! It's just super cool that I did at least one! The event for this year's Spectres Haunt is a little less enticing to me than last time, as I just prefer a simpler event, the one prompt per a week format was really fun, but I do love a good mystery, so It's not too bad. I just hope I can have fun with it!
