Description 1:3.5 scale model Lego Optimus Prime.

a project that initially began in the summer of 2009. originally started out as a head sculpt, then became a bust.. now I've built his entire body.
fully articulate: head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands and fingers, waist, upper legs, knees, ankles, and toes are all poseable.
i overlapped the entire model in three screen shots, since he's so tall.
model is 23,460 bricks total and stands at about 256 bricks in height which i've calculated out to be at 8 feet tall.

Program used is LDD; Lego Digital Designer.

If you need to choose a bot to build, the original Autobot leader has to be #1 on the list. EXCELLENT construction!

heh, actually it was an old MacBook I bought back in early 2009 that was going on a few years old by the time I finished the project.

lol , well anyways , fantastic creation , must've taken a lot of time , considering that the legs and arms are mirrored i suppose you weren't able to clone the certain section and then mirror it

archus7 In reply to TheAxelandx1 [2017-02-09 14:40:46 +0000 UTC]

too true. only a few parts I could just highlight and clone. but most did have to be built along side itself. there were 6 individual files of the head, arms, torso, upper/lower legs and the Energon blades and Matrix. (the 7th file was all the other files joined together as the finished model) it did take a while lol. thanks!

well i certainly don't want to get you started on another massive project such as this but i would like to see you someday build a g1 incarnation of any character of your liking but at a far smaller scale , something that could in fact be more affordable in thermes of parts usage

oh I have wanted to build more models, G1 style, Animated, and War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron. sadly, that laptop kicked the bucket a couple years ago, can't run the Digital Designer program on a phone. lol someday soon though, I hope.

i know the feeling , my only computer that was able to run LDD properly like you said "kicked the bucket" but that was like 3 years ago for me i think , i don't quite remember , but i honestly didn't miss LDD since I am primary building physical creations and building in LDD was just me being lazy to pour my pieces down on my desk XD

I cannot fathom the insane amount of patience and willpower you must have to develop such an enormous and complex model in LDD. You have my respect sir, and I sincerely hope you get the chance to build this for real, because it looks awesome.

I'm sorry to say this but that is not Lego it's just a pic of him with spots on it so if you you think people are gullible enough to believe that you spent 4 years on that then don't postΒ

i guess you've never heard of LDD. it's an official designer program from LEGO. while it isn't real life brick for brick, the work is all still there in a digital space. this was, very much, built piece by piece.. painstakingly. the purpose of LDD is to build a model and use it as a guide to build in real life and serve as a copy/provide instructions. almost all of my Star Fox models were created in LDD first, and now they're all under consideration to becoming official LEGO Nintendo sets.
if i really was willing to spend 5,000-6,000 bucks, i could have LEGO send me every single brick copied right from this model to my doorstep.

thanks, but as stated before, i will not disclose the design plans whatsoever. i plan on presenting the designs to Lego and Hasbro to work up a commission to build this in real life. i've already seen on designbyme someone used and published my midi scale landmaster from several years ago as their own.

Wow That's ridiculous. Ever gonna send this into lego so they can make it? What I really like about this is how its a large lego sculpture but doesn't just rely on bricks and slopes, it uses parts where they actually work, like cylinders, curved elements or curved slopes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

archus7 In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2013-01-28 20:42:10 +0000 UTC]

i do have a plan that once it's done, i'll pitch the idea to Hasbro and Lego so i can be commissioned to build it as a display monument. trying to send the entire lxf file to lego via the program crashes it. i hope to one day be able to build it for Legoland theme parks or even Seattle's Brickcon.

Plague-Doc-Matteo In reply to archus7 [2013-01-29 02:17:25 +0000 UTC]

Very nice. Something like this needs to be done by somebody and displayed. Its this kind of building that actually has the potential to get someone a job with lego building things. Best of luck to you with all this.
