I'd love to see an updated model for this, see what you could pull off wiht some of the newer parts. And of course, instructions on how to make it. The SFA Wolfen is just such a friggin' sexy starfighter design!

You know, your Arwings are top notch, but this? Perfection.

thank you! and yes, as much effort as I put into the Arwing models, I still feel like the SFA Wolfen turned out the most solid of the lot.

Unrelated, but was curious since you clearly enjoy the SF ship designs a great deal, do you have the tomyarts mkc arwing?

hmm, surprisingly even to me, I don't. had considered it many a time.. but I guess subconsciously I had always been waiting for a much larger scale official model to be released some day.

Oh, I actually think the scale is perfect for me. Hoping that if we get the sfzero amiibo it isn't any smaller.

ah! an Amiibo Arwing.. now that id definitely get, a full squad of 4, regardless if it would be smaller or not.. but also hoping it wouldn't.

I remember seeing your take on the model and it has been the biggest nudge in making me pick one up myself. it turned out so well! molded details only do so much when it's a flat unpainted model.. but at this point, I might just create another action figure scale Arwing from SFzero or 64.

Miyamoto was pushing to make it transformable, I doubt that'd happen, it'd just be fun to see.

Oh, thanks. The paintjob on mine is actually very messy, would definitely redo it if I had a new one. This guy did the cleanest job I've seen... though to be fair, he's the only other person I've seen fully paint it aside from me.

I just don't agree with some decal placement and color choices. But the little fox is an awesome touch, even though I like to imagine James in mine.

ah, the decals are an impressive touch though, in the sense that they're on such a small surface. I'll definitely give them that ^^

I guess time will tell on a by possible upcoming toy lines/Amiibos for SFZero. like how Ninendo has been giving us all the World of Nintendo action figures and plush toys, maybe the will give us model vehicles like the Arwing/Landmaster and Samus' gunship. hmm! one can only dream..

Everything about it is impressive, don't get me wrong. I just would've done some things differently.

Hopefully something. I'd prefer smaller stuff but if they did release some playsets I'd definitely buy them.

oh yes. from what we've seen thus far, might be seeing more of the "Micro Land" play sets in that case.

and now I'm a bit curious; when you had tackled the Arwing paint work, did you use acrylic based, or enamel paints? ^^

I used acrylic with some lacquer topcoats. Enamel is good in perfect conditions and if you're a master at it, but as it has such strong thinners and will cure improperly without perfect temp/moisture, it's a medium I tend to stay away from.

Sadly for some reason or another, unlike the one I did for my brother (which has two acrylic mr hobby topcoats), the first (of many) testors lacquer topcoat, after the acrylic, didn't cure properly. So while it it's very rigid, if you scratch in certain areas, it will chip off. Not really a big deal but it is an example of me not knowing what I was doing before. err, that and testors sprays being very inconsistent, and also having the tendency to yellow, which is why I don't use them anymore.

oh definitely. I've worked in primarily enamel paints (Testors and Model Master) and I've been practicing for about 6-7 years by now.. but getting those preferred conditions to work in is like half the patience involved.

I've had a few instances where the enamel never cured properly and remained "tacky" so I've been more careful about which (toy brands and figures) to work on. Transformers have been perfect surfaces for enamel, but not acrylics.. vinyl surfaces like various blind bag figures (and Amiibos) don't take enamel very well at all.. I've been taking more appreciation for acrylics as it's been a widely uncharted territory for me and thanks a ton for that insight!

Sadly I've had tacky experiences as well. One of my favorite paintjobs was my black series sandtrooper, but it never fully cured because tamiya spray has something in it that's thinned by the plasticizers in PVC, which would be the same thing for enamels, and a good reason why TFs work so well with enamel, since they're exclusively POM/PA and ABS.

Acrylics aren't perfect but since most modern toys have plasticized PVC somewhere, they're the ideal option. And if you can varnish it properly it may really not make a difference. Either way, modelmaster acrylics are what I really use on everything, I'm just looking into more airbrush options for finishes at this point. Some people do mixtures with future floor polish, but I hear that doesn't take to oxidation well, so I'm still trying to find a better solution.

ah bummer on that. I had used a Tamiya acrylic on a TF and although it dried well and looks good in the end, it was prone to chipping. the ABS in Legos are great for repainting things like Bionicle Masks. ^^

it's been a while since I delved into airbrushing, mainly got into the carefully thinning out the paints and layering colors. metallic paints and weathering became my forte I guess.

curious now, if you have any other social media sites you post work on/ other places to interact with? would like to see more of your work and methods in action. I first found your Toa revamps linked back to your DA from on Tumblr. (also sorry for that little delay, been busy with work lately )

What sucks is that a lot of the later bionicle masks were PP, which doesn't take paint well for shit.

Well I use facebook for contact, but I don't really post my art anywhere else aside from occassional forum and stuff. Also some wips go up on /toy/ and sent to my friends via FB.

I'll note you my facebook.
