Description
Digitally painted in Photoshop with Wacom Intuos 3I always liked Amora. She's one of marvel's few ambivalent characters. Much like Namor, she could be a heroes' ally or opposing villain with the same ease. Wish they'd use her more often in the Thor comics.
Until recently she was one of Marvel's Asgardian Gods who they'd just made up, rather than taken her from actual Mythology. (Like the Warriors Three, or Karnilla) However, recently they changed that, when it was revealed the Enchantress was actually the goddess Idun as well as Freija and Mardoll. Instead of different (absent) Goddeses, in the Marvelverse, those are just different names Amora has went by. Interesting choice.
And it was kind of hinted at why she turned a little nasty later on, because boy, did Asgard treat the girl like #@$&^ in the olden days.
(Odin is a jerk. There. I said it.)

Actually, they changed Amora's story yet again: Freyja and Idunn are legit Goddesses of Asgard and Vanaheim, and Amora was only posing as them because they disappeared. Plus, they're making her a villianess again.

hmmm I've been away from Marvel for a while and missed that.IS Idun the same as Idunn? I know that Odin's wife Freya had a handmaiden whose name ws almost the same as Freya except one more letter, but cant remember it. I remember twice that Idunn was mentioned twice, always with a refence to the golden apples.

Well, it would appear they decided to blend a few things. The Enchantress was always a new 'Marvel' creation for Norse Mythology like the 'Warriors Three', but they did a recent miniseries about Asgard's past and they specifically stated that Amora the Enchantress was 'known by many names' including 'Freya, Iduna, Mardoll, Gefn.' etc. And that she was the only one capable of 'making the Golden Apples grow'.
Of course, in the Marvel U, Thor's mother was Gaia, with Freya being a tad absent. So I think they decided to blend a few mythological names/goddesses and make them all names/aspects of Amora. It's not 'correct' with mythology but I can appreciate the attempt. (They also show Amora being treated like crap by the House of Odin, which at least partially explains her 'attitude' in later years)

I remember in the 80-90s, Most writers said Odin's wife was Frigga but few (usually a different mag than Thor, like Journey into Mystery) would say Freya so it really got confusing because many fans of the Marval (w/no knowlege of Norse Mythology) would think that Frigga and Freya were the same.
Even old fans like me would knot they are different but got names mixed uo ... like I did in the previous review... I meant to say Odin's wife Frigga had the handmaiden whose name was similar, I knew that Freya/Idunn/Idunna was not Odin's wife, that she (using that name) was never shown but refered to.
Yeah, in the Marvel universe Gaia, the Elder Goddess of the Earth, is Thor's mother and Frigga was a foster mother to him. Last I read in Marvel, Thor had no other brothers beside the adopted Loki, unlike the mythology. Had MArvel changed that finally? I know that in myth, that Baldur was a son of Odin and (depending on the translator of the myths) so was Tyr.
ahhh... that reminds me that Frey and Freya were not Asardians but ... argh! forgot the name starts with a V, ... they were once rivals of the Asardians but were defeated.

Yeah neither Freya nor Frigg(a) have been mentioned by Marvel as individual Asgardians in forever as far as I know. Flashbacks to young Thor and Loki never mention any mother raising them anymore. I think they've now been quietly 'removed'. Oh and they established Amora is also the owner of that one necklace the name of which eludes me right now that in mythology was Freya's.
Oh and yes, it was recently revealed by Marvel that Balder is in fact Thor's actual brother, like the original mythology. Loki and Thor knew but had some reason to keep it secret.
