Description Another old one from when I started pieces with pencil-on-paper then scanned it into Photoshop. Pre-Wacom days.

Anyway, as a big Joss Whedon fan, I wanted to do a piece on Serenity. I'm still okay with it, but looking at it mainly makes me want to do a new one with my current digital methods!

Ah man, I do wish this movie had been a hit and spawned a series of sequels. Nathan Fillion is good in Castle, but come on...he simply rocked as Captain Mal Reynolds!

Nicely done. I like how Serenity looks something like the pupil of an eye watching over the rest of the painting.

I agree, Fillion did rock As Mal. Maybe now that ol' Joss has made millions with the Avengers movie, he'll be able to afford buying the rights to his shw from stinky Fox. I can always dream, can't I?

Amazing work! The colors are great, especially on Serenity's engine tail and the lights reflected in River's eyes! The composition rocks too!

Amen. Not just good TV. Not just good sci fi. Damn good storytelling.

Whedon must've realized the likelihood of Serenity being the last hurrah of the Firefly universe, because he did his fans the great favor of telling a story that brought the story arc of the TV series to a bittersweet conclusion while still allowing the characters to live on in our collective imagination.

Oh, and nice piece. While not photorealisitic, you caught the far-distant focus of River and the angry determination of Mal.

Whedon was always good with making endings to seasons that way too. 'If this is the end of the show, it could work like that, and if we can continue, we can do that too.' I still get a little sad when I rewatch Firefly/Serenity. Such a waste. Everything just 'clicked', you know? Innovative idea, killer casting, etc.

as a huge fan of firefly / serenity, i couldn't agree more that I wish this had spawned more from that universe. even though it didn't, fans like you will still produce awesome pictures like this. this is an outstanding picture, and when I first saw it I thought it might've been a cover for one of the comic mini-series I missed!! anyway, great piece.
