Description I sit here, thoroughly enjoying my cabin in the woods. The sky has been cloudless for nearly a week and the sun arcs higher and higher into the brilliant blue each day. Sun streams through the windows and imparts considerable warmth. Saturday will mark the passage into more than 12 hours of daylight, each day getting 7 minutes longer than the one before it. Temperatures rise within a few degrees of freezing and plummet to -30 at night, but the light is warm enough that one can comfortably sit outside against the south facing walls with nothing but short sleeves.

As beautiful as spring is, as spiritually powerful as the strengthening sunlight may be, I already miss winter. The darkness, the aurora, the snow, even the cold... they are all quiet... restful. A far cry from the light, noise, buzz and bustle of summer. Even the light becomes loud, and for those of us who adapted to the incredibly frigid temperatures, even 80*F days are uncomfortably hot. Having moved from the deep desert, to just below the Arctic Circle, I have definitely become a person who loves the snow and ice.

As I looked out the window this afternoon, I saw the spruce tree you see in the picture. It reminded me of myself this time of year... clinging to the last remnants of winter as the inevitable march toward summer continues on.

Oh goodness, don't even remind me that 80 degrees is coming...*groan*

I hope it doesn't get all smoky and icky again this year!
