Mauve City is a vast metropolis surrounded by desert, more or less isolated from the rest of the Fantasy world. Agni made his living there working as a doctor's assistant in the mornings, and a bartender at night. He lived in a studio apartment above the bar (not seen here, it's at the front of the building, facing the main street). One day, when he was 20, his life was interrupted by a strange girl he happened to pass by on the street.

Also, there was a cat at some point.
