One piece of art down, a bunch more to go!
Collaboration with . Original art is here: [link] . This is not a coloring collab, but rather Meghan made me a lineart reference which I in turn used to create a charcoal piece. That means I had to recreate her lineart as closely as possible. I hope I did a good job. What do you think NutMeg?
This is Ulquiorra from Bleach. Unless you've obsessively watched all the anime on youtube, and I mean all of it, or have been keeping up with the manga, you probably don't know who he is.
*Spoiler Alert*
This guy is what's called an arrancar - a hollow who's been hybridized to have soul reaper/shinigami powers. That means he extremely badass, yo. This is not a black and white piece; he really is that white. Ghost emo dude supremo. (A hollow, by the way, is a human spirit that has gone bad, so to say, and started to eat other people's souls). The boy never has any expression except.
And he just totally owned Ichigo in this week's chapter. I like him. I hope I continue to do so. A very interesting character.*End Spoiler*
Method: Charcoal Reduction
Materials: 80lb white drawing paper; 2B 4B 6B condensed black charcoal; condensed white charcoal; medium and soft vine charcoal; Prismacolor Nupastels: green, bone, light beige; kneaded rubber eraser; pink pearl plastic eraser; fingers for smudging and blending; Lava brand soap for clean up
Size: 12x9"
Time: around about 4 hours. I took some time to have dinner about halfway through, so I'm not sure.

That's a good question. Some might be people who simply want to keep her from ending up with Ichigo. Some might be people who identify with him in some way. Some may feel the human urge to impose feelings on an emotionless character, and so superimpose a relationship between the two because they can't wrap their heads around the idea that he feels nothing. It is an interesting balance, to pair the most emotional character with the least emotional. Or maybe they just like to pair up Orihime with whomever she is currently hanging around, so since she's spends so much time with him in the Hueco Mundo arc, he's the natural partner for those who like to ship characters.

Omfg thts gorgeous(spelling is probly wrong on tht but o well) Charcoal and pastels are my favourite things in the world cuz i think thye look rly well wen used correctly XD Unfortunatly...the first time(and only time) I used pastels was last year for a 7th grade art project

I'm not as fond of the pastels. They're fussy and the fixative often destroys the color variations.

Ive never used charcoal before, but my friend told me it was hard to use...I've wanyed to see for myself, but..Im broke T_T Mah parents dont give me allowences so the only times I get money is on Bdays and holidays from my family XD or wen I babysit for neighbors, which isnt all that often either so...yea, no money at the moment! XD
I plan to buy a set of pastels and some charcoal wen I get money...and my birthday is in lke 2 weeks sooo XD Im excited!

Charcoal is hard in the sense that it smudges easily. Really easily. So it takes some getting used to. That's why I like working in the negative so much - if you mess up you can just darken something in and start over, and you don't have to worry about the pretty white page getting all streaky.
It's really cheap, too. You can pick up a pack of condensed sticks for about $2.

I think it's a lot of fun to use.
Don't forget to get a can of workable fixative if you do get some charcoal. You'll need it if you don't want your drawing to rub off little by little over time.

He is quite a cool character. If you're watching the English dub, it'll be a long time before you see him. He comes up around chapter 180 or so in the manga.

Yeah, you could say to that. But not demon in the Christian sense, since hollows don't come out of hell (and there is a hell in the Bleach universe). Definitely an eastern ghost gone really bad. Although some of them are turning out to be either very neutral or even good characters. I suppose once they regain a semblance of their humanity, they revert to being more human-like again. Some good, some not. But all immensely powerful and scary.

I like this picture, very "charcoal" feel, a natural, artistic feel than "photoshop" art. Background is also well done, contrasting nicely. Nice detail overall, I love it. On a totally different note, how do these emoticons work? I'm using firefox but can't use them.

He's a hollow, so he has a hollow mask. But since he's now an arrancar, he's be able to break his mask and reemerge as more human again. That's what's left of his mask.

It is a lot of power. Am not sure how many souls The Preacher controls at any given time but in Ghost it is alluded to be in the thousands. Will just have to read all the book.

Well, hollows eat souls, the menos grande eat other hollows, and the arrancar are made up of many menos grande, with one core dominant soul. So it is a lot. Yeek.

Me thinks Ichigo is due for an inner world confrontation. He always gets one when he gets owned by someone.
I did think Ulquiorra was a higher number than 4. I also wonder if Hiraku is going to show up, especially since he was in the two page spread last week. It was the three still standing, and Hiraku. That surprised me, really.
What I want to know is why Orihime just doesn't blow a hole in the wall and go after Rukia. She should be able to, right? Just reject it out of existence. That girl, it seems to me, doesn't realize her potential.
I tried at least four shades of green before I settled on this one. And you were right, this was by far the most white I have ever used.

We saw a lot of Shirosaki, yeah, but we haven't seen Zangetsu in forever. I'd hope it would be Zangetsu he sees; forces him to really take control of the hollow. Damn the other Vaizard can get 14 hours straight!
I doubt anyone really important to the story line would die now. Too early in the story. And Rukia is just no way. People forget she's the female lead and the character that links all the others together. Chad maybe before it's all over, but really I expect (hope
Hardly anyone has died in the entire story. The one guy who Mayuri blew up, and some past tense deaths- Ichigo's mom, Orihime's brother, Hinata... but considering the type of story it is, I'd wager most people make it out alive, except Aizen (or other bad guy if he is also being manipulated by someone).

yeah, u lost me at the title. I seriously dont like Manga, It just doesnt do it for me. THe only japaname i ever liked was the Transformers. THats about it. I mean, its a nice piece, though.

I've always been a comic book lover. I don't really have preferences for style. Grew up reading boatloads of marvel. I've inherited my brother's complete Transformers series. Haven't decided what I want to do with it yet. We've still got all his transformers, too. I keep meaning to get them out and take some stock photos of them at least. As an 80's child, I watched them a lot too. But as for anime, it was Voltron I loved as a 10 year old.
