S T O R Y
In January of this year we'd received notice that some of her things had been left behind and Minerva and myself had decided now was a good time to go get them. Little did we know the shit-storm we'd be walking into. I'd been told we were to all ride toward the palace, which raised the question. Where the hell is this palace? My guide told me to follow him, and that the palace wasn't too awfully far from our current position. He just said it would be a tough ride, carrying us both up and down various mountain sides. Living in upstate New York, that is something I found easy. We'd regularly take the horses up and down the mountains as an endurance builder. Rouge and I would sometimes take off in the early morning to watch the sun rise over the mountains. Minerva and I would go up there to watch the sun set. It was tradition by now.

We were some of the last ones to arrive, and I could feel Minerva shifting uneasily under me. She didn't like this, and the feeling was mutual. She pawed the ground, pulling at the heavy tack attached to her body. I'd outfitted her in full on Nordanner Dragon Tack for her own safety, and my own. Who knew what we would meet on the way back home. I slid off her back, patting down my shirt and striding into the crowd ahead of me. Shoulders back and act like you know what you're doing.

I came to a stop in front of one of the generals, trying to stay calm when I asked what was going on. The simple answer I got was 'an evacuation' but what were we running from? I shook my head, walking back out to Minerva and making sure everything was secured in place. All I had on me was the clothes on my back and a small saddlebag, holding food rations for Minerva and I both. I'd left everything at the hotel when I came here. I heard the order to saddle up echo across the palace, and quickly everybody was on their horses. Minerva and I fell in line behind some Atlanticus I'd later recognize to be Rise from Atlantis. Charming horse he was. As my eyes scanned the crowd I recognized more and more of the horses, but there was some I was at a loss for who, and what, they were. Jokers were my only guess for some of them.

We kicked into a gallop, the thundering of our hooves carrying us closer and closer to the bridge. The only thing connecting this world to mine. If you'd asked me 10 years ago about the possibility about more than one world, I'd call you crazy. But now? Now everything seemed possible. I settled my eyes on a spot in the crowd, letting her smooth gait slowly rock me into a trance. I needed to be calm. On the outside, at least.
