Description

The story of the Blood Rose is a tale about another world; well three actually.Β  These three worlds all existed withing their star's goldilocks zone, like Venus, Earth and Mars millions of years ago.

Β

The equivalents of Mars and Venus were inhabited by beings not too unlike ourselves, bipedal, two eyes, two ears, one nose, etc., there were some minor differences between theΒ  two worlds, one was hotter because it was closer to their sun while the other was cooler and much greener due to more carbon dioxide.

Β

The peoples were different too; the ones closest to their sun were larger, they mainly ate meat and were dark skinned.Β  The others were smaller but just as strong due to their planet's extra gravity and their skin could photosynthesise to supplement food shortage and take advantage of the higher CO2 levels; meaning their skin was either green or red, or maybe even a mix of the two.

Β

The Planet in the middle was bigger but it wasn't inhabited, it was mostly rock, and only had a relatively shallow layer of earth, though most of the planet was covered in a vast freshwater sea that was maybe ten feet at its deepest but mostly knee to thigh high from coast to coast.Β  It had a breathable atmosphere but a relatively thin magnetosphere so it's only inhabitants were micro and macroscopic extremophiles and the hardiest of plant's one of which was a small wild yellow rose.Β  This planet was a gift from the Gods they called it Horos, The Garden.

Β

The Garden was where the two planet's who weren't on the best of terms would resolve transgressions, huge war parties were sent by both sides and in The Garden they would go to war, they didn't fight with bombs and guns the fought like the knights of old on Earth: with swords, axes and armour, They tested each others skill, strength, cunning, speed, agility; millions would be slain in one battle and the winning side was decided by the last warrior standing.

Β

The dead were left where they fell in the water or patches of land, the soil and water soon became red with blood and though this kind of contamination would kill off the native life here, the extremophiles and the roses adapted quickly and began to flourish.Β  now after hundreds of battles The Garden's sea remains red and the little yellow rose has become large, magnificent and blood red.Β  Occasionally relatives and descendants of the fallen go to The Garden to tend the Roses in their honour.
