Description A mask inspired by the stones. Sadly, even with a heavy patina, the bright metal still drowns out the complexities of the patterns in the stones.

Brass with copper and copper-nickel-brass mokume overlay, and liver-of-sulfur patina. All hand fabricated.

when i saw it, i immediately thought of the song by Nightwish, which is one of my favorites by them. it's a gorgeous piece and just screams "masquerade"!

Anything with "Nemo" in the title always grabs my attention. I don't know the song reference but was raised on Jules Verne's incredible stories and the complex character of Captain Nemo has always fascinated me ,not to mention the Art Nouveau acoutremonts always associated with him. Your piece has some of that style though I don't think you mentioned Art Nouveau...
Your explanations of the work process are VERY IMPORTANT for all on DA who bother to read your comments. So much work on here is left without adequate explanation either of process or motivation, and this is sad really because within the artists internal machinations is such rich inspirational material for others...
So ,keep up the good CREATIVE,innovative work ,and keep us apprised of your process both inner and outer. It IS appreciated...

thanks for your interest and for taking the time to read the explanation!

I've actually never read a full version of Jules Verne's stories before.... that's next on my list after finishing Dracula

And I'm pretty sure Nemo is Latin for no-one, not Greek for no-one.

You actually made me dig out my old Latin dictionary (I took Latin in HS) and you're right. I looked it up in a Greek-English dictionary online and "Nemo" apparently doesn't mean anything at all in Greek lol.... It was just something I read in one of the song explanations online somewhere; they probably got the languages mixed up because a character named Nemo was mentioned in a Greek legend somewhere (it's been long enough since I've read that stuff that I've forgotten exactly what it said lol). But in any case, I'll change it so I don't look like an idiot Thanks for pointing it out!

Your welcome. That's one of the few words in Latin I know.

Glad you liked it! It seems like the most difficult ones turn out the best. It took me as long to make Nemo as it did to make all the other pieces of jewelry combined..... but it was totally worth it. I'm in love with my Nemo ^_^

Next up: Vincent Valentine's claw (hopefully!)
