I love your ship designs. There's an elegant simplicity to them and yet you add so many tiny details that really make them feel real.

Thanks!

Very nice.

Hm considering the high accelerations exhibited by Loroi and Umiak ships, do both civilizations use antimatter drives for normal space propulsion?

They use something similar. The fuel is called taimat, which is an artificially-produced form of exotic matter with similar properties to helium-4. It is unstable, and can be induced to self-annihilate on demand, which releases gamma radiation and a small mass of subatomic particles. The energy efficiency is less than but close to that of a matter-antimatter annihilation. Taimat is less expensive to produce than antimatter, and easier to store (it can be kept stable as long as it is supercooled, stored at very low temperatures).

Very interesting. It sounds like it could also be useful for warheads for torpedoes and missiles and such. Is that the case?

Is there a downside to taimat versus antimatter for propulsion or in use for warheads?

The reactor itself is essentially a bomb (whether you're using antimatter or taimat), so there's no need for a separate warhead. Just trigger the remaining fuel, and boom!

Both fuels perform similarly, with antimatter being almost 100% efficient in conversion from matter to energy, and taimat being less efficient but easier and safer to store. If you lose containment on taimat and it starts to boil, you may still be able to vent it into space before it goes critical (though it will still give off a lot of radiation), but if you lose magnetic containment on antimatter, that's all she wrote.

Very stylish.

I'm assuming this shuttle also has atmospheric capabilities. Does it use chemical engines for planet-to-orbit insertion and ion thrustsers (or whatever the Loroi version is) on pure space operations?Β

Yes. For atmospheric operation, the vanes on the system drives close, and the atmosphere-safe auxiliary engines (the nozzles on the upper part of the nacelles) take over.

Do the engine nozzles also give thrust vectoring, or is atmospheric control achieved only through regular control surfaces?

Also, does it use a regular runway to land, or does it have additional lift engines on the underside for VTOL/STOL operations?

Oh, and are those round things at the back the cargo doors?

Yes, the engine nozzles can gimbal similar to those on the Space Shuttle, and the maneuvering thrusters can also be used in atmosphere.

My thought is that it would require a runway to land (though the maneuvering thrusters can probably help make it a short landing), but I'll have to think about that. It would be cool being able to land Millennium Falcon style on a helipad... it's very large, but it is meant as a VIP transport.

And yes, there are doors and a ramp at the rear for aft loading of cargo.

I have always liked your work and I need to get back to your comic.

I really like how this craft is very well crafted (no pun intended)

It looks sleek enough to elude most bandits yet large enough to carry a small crew or cargo on board huh?

Awe inspiring!
Jaradin has had a lot of bad luck, but He's toughed it all out without making an ass of himself! (*a fairly miraculous feat in it self*)
This may be the turning point for his story; from being vulnerable and needing rescue -Β to becoming the competent, leading, hero he was always meant to be!
Han Solo, beware. There is a newΒ Scoundrel who will define himself through his nobleΒ deeds.

from that angle I finally understood why it have those flaps on the back X)

Your spaceships are paintovers of 3d dummy models, or you are just that good at perspective?

Some are outright CGI renders, and some are drawn completely freehand. In this case there is a 3D mockup that was used as a reference for the hand-drawn image.
