It was slow because it was designed to provide infantry support, so the grunts could keep up with it. Also 6 tons was a lot of weight to move with an automobile engine and transmission. The only differences between the French and American models was the French used a wooden idler wheel while the American version used a steel one. And the American FT-17 had a firewall between the engine compartment and the fighting compartment.
At the WW1 museum in Kansas City, MO, they have one on display showing the damage in took in the engine from a German 77 mm gun. And they run a video presentation showing a working tank and how the thing was operated, including the 37 mm gun.

Interesting. It was the only one of the era to actually look like a tank as we know it.
Great job!

The Renault FT also pioneered the crew layout for (almost) all subsequent tanks: Driver below in the hull, commander/gunner/loader in the turret.
Romanian Renault FTs from the tank training unit helped drive the Germans out of Bucharest during the 23 August 1944 coup.

Even if the Belgians had stayed neutral I have to admit that they fought tooth and nail for their homeland just like the French. Lovely tank by the way.

And see that's the thing, people make a lot of fun with the blitzkrieg. They know the fighting was brief, but they don't know just how intense and violent it actually was.

It's awesome that you're diggin' it! I've been reading and practicing with color theory latley. It's amazing how much of a difference a few shade blends can make

Captain Eisenhower and Captain Patton met over these new weapons.
Patton got sent to France to fight.
Eisenhower took command of training men to use these new weapons.
After the war both Patton and Eisenhower developed tactics for using this new weapon.
Little did they know another one was working on tactics for this new weapon.......he would later unleash it on Europe. Heinz Guderian.

Heinz came in later, and built upon the groundwork that Hans von Seeckt (the real father of the Panzerwaffe and Wehrmacht in general) had set up before him.

True enough.
Heinz put it all together.
He had the machinery available at the right time and place.
Seeckt had the tactics but not the equipment.
Eisenhower and Patton studied Seeckt but America fell behind on equipment. Hence our lack of good tanks when we came into the war.

Speaking of Patton I have really mixed feelings on him, coming from someone who had quite a few relatives who served under him. I love and respect what he was capable of, but I don't have much respect for him as a person.

Oh I agree......he was a real jerk.
He was a privilege rich guy who was very well connected in society and basically bought his way into West Point.
Eisenhower was however the real genius as he was commander of the first Armor Training School.
He favored integrations of armor with infantry.
He lacked the connections that Patton had but had impressive skills at the organizational level.
Patton was tactical oriented........push forward, push deep however that leaves you open to pincher counterattacks.
Eisenhower was strategic oriented..........take ground, control it, then take more.
Egyptian forces learned the harsh lesson of over extending your attack in the Six Day War.

Sadly he never spoke about his time in the army (as it turns out, he was called under arms from the General Mobilisation in July of 1939 until the surrender on May 28th 1940); however after my grandmother's death I found over a hundred letters, one for almost every day of his service. While he only served as infantry, he did see his fair share of boredom... and action!
Your drawing is way better than I ever imagined it would be!
