Description
My "American Dragon: Jake Long" original dragon character. I came up with the idea for her for an ADJL RPG, "Destroy Jake Long", several years ago and she's stuck around long after the game disbanded and even the forum threads for it lost. Good times though.
This is a recoloring I did, but the original drawing is here:

Thanks again for the picture.
Name:
Unknown, and she's not likely to tell anyone any time soon. Most call her Arkansan Dragon, as that was where she was first seen. Over time they just started calling her "Arkansan", ArkDrag" or "AD".
Species:
Dragon (Magical Creature Guardian)
Dragon Breath Weapon:
fire
Gender:
female
Personality:
friendly for the most part, brave, protective of others, can be rash at times, slightly paranoid
Likes:
friendship, family, freedom, peace, learning, exploring
Dislikes:
war, arrogance, tyrants, willful ignorance, guarding the cursed "Heart of Draco" ruby
Home:
An alternate "Disney-verse" Earth, war-torn from several years under siege by the ruthless alien warlord Coredeath. (See this guy:
Coredeath,
vulpixhelen
's brother, for details about his character.) Before the war, she was a forest roaming dragon, helping and protecting magical creatures wherever she found them, but usually staying hidden to keep her charge, a powerful cursed ruby, out of unwanted hands. After being drawn into the war, she quickly rose through the ranks of the HMA (Human and Magical Alliance) to become one of its leaders. She now lives in the HMA's underground base beneath the subway system of the ruin that was once New York City.
Age:
early 20s
Faction:
The Human and Magical Alliance (HMA) (a.k.a Jake Long and Co.'s group of rebels against Coredeath and his armies)
Friends:
Jake Long and Co., though more due to fighting along side them and multiple "what the heck are we doing" missions and near-death escapes than anything else.
Mortal Enemy:
Coredeath. The guy has had it out for her ever since he learned of her powers- and she blew up his giant orbital space station- and helped destroy his wormhole generator, thus destroying his base of operations- among several other things. AD bares an ugly claw mark scar on her left side, running from under her ribs to her hip, from when Coredeath tried to kill her just after she blew up his space station. It was this injury that led to Lao Shi's death, and she keeps the scar as a reminder.
Bio:
Not much is known about her past before she gained her Dragon Powers and was apprenticed to the guardian of the "Heart of Draco". This is mainly because she's still recovering from head trauma suffered several years before the war which gave her partial amnesia. What she does remember, she tends to keep to herself. Before the war, she tended be a loner, out of a sense of duty to protect others from her curse, until joining up with the HMA to protect others from what she felt was a worse threat: Coredeath. Living in a communal base has been an interesting experience and has taken some getting used to. She's found that she greatly enjoys the company of others, but still feels crowded at times and tends to venture off on her own.
She's come to deeply care for her friends and views them almost as family. As the war has dragged on, however, she's become plagued by a sense that she is the reason her friends are constantly in danger, as Coredeath seems more determined than ever to destroy them after witnessing her powers. One of their missions against Coredeath resulted in Jake's grandfather, Dragon Master Lao Shi, being killed while protecting her when she was badly wounded, adding a sense of guilt on top of everything else. She often wonders if it would be better to go back into hiding as a loner. These feelings are only made worse by the number of times Coredeath has managed to capture her, leaving her friends to rescue her and making her feel like the proverbial "damsel in distress", a feeling which she hates with a passion. The others insist that she's no such liability, arguing that her skills as a fighter are just as good as any of theirs. She's grateful for their morale boosts and tries and to return the favor as often as she can.
Being thin and light, she's more likely to dodge and make quick strikes in battle, using speed to her advantage. Defending friends, however, can sometimes lead her to act without thinking, often putting herself in danger as well.
Human Looks:
Unknown. Like all guardian dragons, AD has the natural-born ability to shapeshift into human form. No one has ever seen her do this, however, and it's debated whether or not she even can. Some say that she's so paranoid about keeping her idenity a secret that she simply refuses to do so. Others think that she's spent so long in dragon form that she's forgotten her human self, and so is unable to change. The most common theory is that the magical stone she carries somehow traps her in dragon form, and that she'll be stuck that way until death, or until she gets rid of the cursed thing.
The Dragon Mark:
AD has a red, dragon-shaped mark on her right palm (those visible red marks in the picture are its tail wrapped around her wrist). Despite what it looks like at first glance, however, the mark is not a Huntsclan birthmark. It's merely a dragon-shaped tattoo, given to her by her mentor after she became his apprentice to guard the cursed ruby, the "Heart of Draco". Since the tattoo was given to her before the Dragon Council, and through them, the rest of dragonkind, learned that Huntsclan identified their fellow dragon-slayers by these uncommon birthmarks, the mistake is an easy one to make. She has no plans as of yet to get the tattoo removed, but most ignore it, since the HMA has several defected Huntsclan members in it, at least two whom fled the Clan because of previously unknown Dragon Powers surfacing (again, a very rare, though easily made mistake as Huntsclan take their members from birth and Dragon Powers normally don't manifest until puberty).
The "Heart of Draco":
(Not pictured here.) From the unknown reaches of outer space, this ruby crashed to Earth as part of a meteorite many years ago. Found by the dragons, it was named after the island where it crashed (the Isle of Draco, the dragons' secret meeting place) and was discovered to have powerful magic which would be devastating in the wrong hands. So it was kept a secret from the rest of the world. One dragon was tasked with guarding it, and they would choose an apprentice, and so on.
The job seemed easy enough at first, but over time it seemed that that gem had a curse along with the great power, and possibly a mind of its own. For example, when choosing a new guardian, it would glow brightly whenever the "chosen one" was close. It only seemed to work for those who had magic in their blood, and even than, it seemed to favor those with dark magic or evil intent over anyone else, attracting them like a magnet and granting them full range of its powers (As was the case when Coredeath briefly wielded it and was granted invulnerability, among other powers, until AD managed to take it back from him. She never found out if he suffered negative side effects from using it or not.) (Coredeath was only able to wield it at all thanks to being part dragon due to a freak accident during his first scouting mission to Earth several years before invading).
The gem's guardians are granted limited use of its power in the form of random abilities varying from guardian to guardian. It can be made to grant a certain power at the guardian's will, but this takes much focus and drains the guardian's life force, weakening them when a power is used. If the ability is too strong, this causes the user to black out, or worse. When using the ruby's powers, both the stone and the user's eyes glow with bright reds and oranges (like fire). If the user is able to access the gem's full powers, they gain a fiery aura as well. The unfortunate guardians are also cursed with a plague of bad luck, often ending in comically tragic deaths, thus the need for an apprentice. There was one guardian, for example, who was given mind reading abilities, but died just days later by getting a piano dropped on his head. AD's granted power seems to be dream visions of distant events. Other powers the ruby has revealed are creating magical shields, firing blasts of magical energy, absorbing blasts of energy and than redirecting them (which was how AD destroyed Coredeath's space station, though the effort all but killed her), healing (others, not the user), teleportation, enhanced senses, enhanced speed and enhanced strength.
Guardians of the ruby were also discouraged from using it too often, besides the obvious reason, because of the chance they become addicted to its power, or worse, become corrupted by it. That guardian who got mind-reading became addicted to it, which is why he didn't notice the falling piano. Luckily, no guardian has become corrupted so far, but better safe than sorry.
AD has been lucky to survive this long while guarding the cursed rock, mostly thanks to her friends, but would love nothing more than to get rid of it, aside from an end to the war. She did manage to destroy it- once -by dropping it into a magical volcano, only for Coredeath and his sorceress sister (who later defected to HMA after growing tired of her brother's battle-lust and growing obsession with controlling/destroying magic) to re-make the stone with a dark magic ritual, that same volcano, and some of AD's blood, before leaving her there to die tied up next to a nuclear bomb (overkill much?). Luckily her friends found her in time and were able to defuse the bomb. After winning it back from Coredeath, she discovered that it couldn't be destroyed that way again. So for now, as nothing else seems to be capable of destroying it, she seems to be stuck with it.
