I remember finding this years ago, and I was in love. I don't know if I commented back then, and I don't know why I didn't favorite it at the time.
But as far as I'm concerned, *THIS* is the ending I choose for Mass Effect 3.

I really like your final... I would like to see it in my screen... crying seeing everyone together giving their very best for the best of the galaxy.
I had a final too... but that is only a think that It was in my mind with shepard alive. If that is something that I can feel playing the game is that Shepard should be tired of fighting. So If Shepard stays alive... I would like to see him/her see the fallen ships on Earth and when the war is over speaking with the scuad:
"whe won, Now what?"
Shepard take a long breath and left his weapon aside "Now? It's all over..." *turns to see his/her scuad members* "Dismiss..."
And there he could die in peace...
I have to admit that your description of the last final, almost make me cry only just for imagine it.... Was perferct... I really enjoyed it... It would be good if Bioware worked better the final of this excelent series.
Congratulations for an EXCELENT final.

I read about the controversy multiple times for the following months in 2012. But playing the game and witnessing my decisions being ignored like that, was a blow. I don't think I'll be playing the Mass Effect series any time soon. Even with EC, none of what you did mattered. Sure, slideshows show you the aftermath of the war but I wished to see... more. I worked my ass off to get Krogan support. Curing the genophage was a gamble but since I know Wrex and Eve, I trust them to do what must be done and guide the Krogan. It won't be easy but I trust their leadership and I'm sure that many other clans do too. I had to fight a Reaper ON FOOT and yell at a stupid admiral to get the Geth and Quarians on my side. I sacrificed human lives so I could save the Ascension(I love that ship). I was chased down by Reapers while trying to find more ships for my fleet. I united three of the most dangerous mercenary bands under one banner(even if it's temporary). I freed the Rachni Queen TWICE knowing that she might become a HUGE problem. I took that gamble and it paid off. Her workers helped with the Crucible and I had her warriors at my side. Yet, not only does none of that is shown but you are given three choices and if you refuse, then "screw you, everyone is condemned to extinction". What happened to Commander Shepard? Throughout the series, Shepard always solve problems on his/her terms whether you play renegade or paragon. Shepard never submits to what someone else says. S/he does what s/he sees fit for the situation. Yet, in the last 10 minutes of the adventure, Shepard must submit to what the Reaper's creator says? It hurts more when you play the trilogy on a row to be rewarded by this atrocity of an ending we have. Even the Extended Cut doesn't change the fact that you've just spend 90 hours(the trilogy) making all the "right" choices to see none of it matter in the end.

This is great and I wish there had been an ending like this where all of our decisions actually mattered and made a difference in the end of the game. I'm hoping that Dragon Age Inquisition lives up to it's promises of varied endings that are affected by your decisions, it seems Bioware learned a bit from the reactions Mass Effect 3's ending caused.

I almost wish I never listened to my stupid brother and started playing them! I find the Indoctrination Theory implausible and ad hoc- this ending, on the other hand, strikes me as elegant. You've preserved alot of the concepts and outline from the Starchild conversation, but the changes you've made make the whole story more consistent and plausible- in particular, the bit about the reapers become synthetics in order to save the galaxy from themselves. Also makes their motivations for harvesting organics make more sense.
But the most important part, I think, for most fans, is the bit at the end- where THE CHOICES WE'VE MADE AFFECT THE ENDING; seeing the characters who survive, or the war assets we've acquired, in action, would be just the sort of customization we've been given all along (it would make the ME3 ending much more like the ME2 ending- which was superior, if for no other reason because OUR CHOICES MATTERED). Too bad BW didn't take notes, as this is far superior to the EC and refuse ending they tacked on to placate fans.

The main reason the Mass Effect 3 ending was so bad is because they used a different writer for the third game. They fired the person that had been writing the plot for the first two games.
The original ending was much better.

To be honest the Dark Energy ending actually sounds pretty stupid as well, either sacrifice Humanity so they becomes Reapers as well and they solve the Dark Energy problem but the rest of the galaxy is spared or kill the Reapers and hope that galaxy can find a solution in the little time left.
That actually sounds just as bad no matter how well structured.

I find it odd as well that they would opt for a war of attrition via direct confrontation. I mean, granted that the Crucible could end the Reapers, they were still in the dark on what the Catalyst was. To bank on only one course of action to win a war would be foolhardy. It has been proven that they could eliminate Reapers but takes more firepower. Couldn't they just resort to a hit and run tactic? Or have a side-development of arms which is feasible since the Crucible science team can surely come together to brainstorm a more effective type of artillery which they can base off on the ones known to have been able to take down Reapers (i.e. Quaraian Flotilla ammunition). The ending really made little sense to me in terms of military strategy. Don't get me started on that surprise AI kid. Sigh. The story was great up until Sanctuary / after Priority: Thessia.

One day we will get the ending the players deserve, and if it is something like this or like the Indotrination theory will not matter. All that matters is that Most of the players of the Mass Effect games have come together, united under one flag, one common goal. Stop the never ending line of bull shit that has been given to us since the first of us discovered how bad the ending to our beloved Mass Effect has came to a close. For the first time, a community of gamers has come to unite as one, and together we can get all that we were promised and all that we deserve. That is why for now we must not waver, we must not lose hope, and we must never lose sight of what is we our fighting for. We must, for the sake of everyone that has invested five years of their life in to this, Hold the line. Patterson Out.

Amazing. A few things would have to be changed with the Leviathan add-on, but otherwise, this would be an amazing choice, with so much potential on the visual aspect of things, not just emotional. I personally have no problem with the true ending though, it's not great, but it beat the endings of basically every other game I've played. But to tell you the truth, I was really hoping the crucible wouldn't be an all powerful weapon to wipe out the reapers. I was hoping it would be more like an advancement technologically on the existing weapons used in your huge fleet. I was hoping you could complete it, and maybe install it on the normandy, alongside the beautiful cannon that took out the collector ship. That would let the normandy become the weapon that could defeat the reapers. It would give you e ability to fight back. Flying from system to system in a collage of space battles, slowly retaking reaper controlled space. The Normandy would be leading the charge, tearing the reapers apart one by one, with the coverfire of the largest fleet in the history of the universe. This would also put into use the upgrades from the second game. If you hadn't upgraded your ship completely, it may just get taken out, or heavily damaged, during this final push to retake the galaxy. It would also eliminate taking out the geth and EDI. I felt really terrible getting Joker to go out with EDI, and then destroying her, so that I could defy the Reapers (and possibly return to Tali, with the extended cut).
So ultimately, I wish Bioware would revise the ending, for those who want it revised. they could possibly change a bit of the dialogue in the game slightly, so that the crucible's size could be greatly reduced, to fit on the normandy. They could then leave the catalyst in the game. Leave everything as it is basically, to the point where the crucible docks. Instead of that, it could be the normandy landing on the citadel, with your entire crew. Then the catalyst would be what the AI child happens to tell you (in your ending). The catalyst would be the fact that the Reapers aren't perfected. They are defeatable through conventional ways. The Catalyst would be hope. So in what was the final moment of Mass Effect 3, where you choose how you win, you could stand alongside the crew you survived with; the crew who trusts you completely, and defy the reapers. You could defy the AI child's attempts to make you understand the Reapers' black and white world. (Just to add in here, the AI child would likely just be talking to you like it did in the original, except, instead of the choices, you would have the choice to let the Reaper's harvest everyone, and perform synthesis on your people against their will, to control the Reapers like the Illusive man wanted (however this would have to have a dowsde...Shepard dying might be good enough... maybe add in your crew as well), or to risk everything you've done in the past, to try to defeat the Reapers, and make your own future without them) In the moment you defy the Reapers, you would board the Normandy, and take off into the battle to lead your fleets against the Reaper hordes in a glorious space battle, unrivaled by anything seen in videogames, or movies before. You would witness the trust you built give your friends the strength they need to fight for everthing they know and love, all the war assets you recovered joining the battle, and taking down Reapers in glorious showers of flame, and debris. You would witness age old hatred melt in the faces of Turians, Salarians, and Krogan, as they fight for eachother, to live another day without the threat of the Reapers, as well as the Quarians and Geth coordinating deadly barrages from their fleets and troops, the very image of the Reapers' mistake. A great addition would be the Salarian fleets coming to the aid of what Shepard gathered (if Shepard didn't sabotage the genophage cure), joining in the fight out of necessity, not trust. And all this would be highlighted by the normandy, firing the crucible, each flash of that cannon spelling the end of a reaper.
I feel this would be a great ending to the greatest trilogy ever created. It would live up to the epic feel of the series, and give it a scope that blows away all previous battles, from defeating Sovereign, to blowing up the Collector base, to watching Kalros obliterate a Reaper destroyer single handedly. and yes... choosing this path could end with the Reapers winning... that's the whole reason for finding the War Assets, and playing online to get your Galaxy ready for this moment. It would take a lot to defeat the Reapers, and that would have to be apparent. Also, the matter of firing the Crucible. Throughout the entire game, the catalyst is the missing piece, and I said the catalyst would actually be hope, so how would you fire it? Well. docking the normandy where the crucible docks in the original would have to do something. I say it would power the crucible. Charge it, in other words. The hope wouldn't just be from the AI's words, it would be from the fear that stems from the AI when Joker tells you "The Crucible is online, Commander." That is when the AI inadvertantly gives you the hope that's needed to try to defeat the Reapers by franticly trying to convince you it's impossible.
Wl, that's just my incomplete take on what the ending should have been like.

This is honestly what should have happened. It reminds me of how FFXII played out as well with Ashe. She as character is in a unique situation where she gets access to godlike power-- power to save her people and destroy her enemies. These "gods" give her this power and have been manipulating her the entire way by appearing as her dead husband, as though her dead husband's ghost wants her to get revenge on the empire that destroyed and subjugated her people. This empire is thought invincible by conventional warfare means. They even have access to some of this godlike power themselves and have shown willingness to use it. But finally, when she stands at the end with the option to take up an unlimited power source and use it destroy her enemy, she looks at the "ghost" of her husband and says:
"Raslar, my prince, our time was short... And yet I know this-- you were not the kind to take base revenge!" And with that, she swings her sword through the ghost. "The Raslar I knew is gone."
Finally the ghost speaks and when it does, we see that it really is an illusion of one of the godlike beings controlling history and the world. "You are our saint, Ashelia. You must use the nethicite. You must be the one to straighten history's weave!" It's voice becomes desperate, but she swings her sword through the illusion again.
"I am not some false saint for you to use!" And in the end, she refuses the power, destroys it in fact, forever cutting off the gods from influencing mortal history. Then the empire attacks her homeland and everyone stands together in a big glorious battle to decide the fate of the world. In the end, she and her companions win the battle. It comes at considerable cost but she did it-- and she didn't have to play god to do it.
That is the game I wanted. Too bad we didn't get it.
