Description I'm introducing you my first drawing within project "Sea Mafia" . Whole project was inspired by "Godfather" movie and a bit of humor .
Al - is an independent detective , whose personality refers to John Constantine (Vertigo) , and his look refers to Comissar James Gordon (DC Comics) . His nickname "slippery" is given to him by those who know his ability to complete his investigation by ANY means , and after , not being catched by police .
Process of darwing him was a lot of fun (especially his "moustache"). I'm plannig to post colored version soon .
Hope you like it! post a comment & fave

Nice work

I think it could benefit from having the values pushed a little further; you could really increase the shadows' depth, particularly on the underside of his arms, legs, facial area etc. If you have set the light as coming from the top right of the image, adding contrasting darks to the left and underside of the character's forms would really help to describe his form and ultimately make a more interesting image. Plus he would really pop from the background.

On the underside of his tie, in it's shadowed area, you have a dark value that I think you should apply to some of the aforementioned areas. Don't be scared to try out extreme lighting/shading scenarios - if something doesn't work out, try again until it does!

A good lighting setup should produce an image/composition that is 70% dark and 30% light (or vice-versa). Bear that in mind when creating a piece of artwork and try to see the image as a whole during the production stages, imagining how this rule of thumb might apply to the entire piece.

Your technique and style is very nice here; it seems to have just the right amount of grittiness in your strokes and rendering that fits well in a Noir kinda style - I like that a lot.

I hope this advice helps you out, let me know how you get on with the rest, I'd love to see your progress!
