Decided to try a new design on Noh, after receiving this commission: [link]I had never really thought of Noh or his species as being "bony" or "skeletal," but it actually does make them look rather intriguing. I think I might experiment with this a bit more.
Oh, and in case you can't tell, the middle one's a female.
That's okay, I don't know the differences yet, either.

Thanks! These guys are my brain babies right now, and I'm spending a lot of time trying to solidify their designs and create a bit of a backstory for them. Hopefully I'll be able to do something productive with them in the future.

I say this cuz I've been working on my original stories, one of them since 2000. That's 9 years of preparation, LOL. Sad. So 2010 I'm finally going to roll out some good stuff. Hope to see yours too!

I did think that they would have a rather slow and extremely akward gait while walking upright, but they would gain a lot of speed if they moved along on all four like giant insects.

Well hey, I know I tend to change around my character's designs as they develop. It's all about finding the right fit.
If you can, you should try animating their walk. Could be fun and I know I'd love to see it! :3

They all look angry. I think it's just their purpose in life. They're actually very nice beings once you get to know them, and usually don't cause a lot of harm towards anybody. But then again, there's always the bad eggs, aren't there?
But yes, I could imagine quite a few of them being quite snippety indeed.

XD The females and the males look rather similar so far. XD I don't think I'm going to be making too many distinguishing features between them. More fun that way.

That's very cool. O-O Though I kinda agree with Kar-Toon there about your older ones. The rounded ones can me like younger ones and you can have older ones with all bony and stuff. gender I have no clue....certain shapes on there faces maybe?

Yeah, a lot of those things I'm still considering myself. I'm still messing around with their designs, trying to finalize them, and I'm actually having a lot of fun with these. XD
Yeah, I'm thinking the facial patterns have a lot to do with gender identification, too. Isn't that funny? I'm the creator of these guys and I can't tell them apart, either.

Oh, that's easy; if the stripes are more edgy and square-it's a guy, but if the stripes are rounded off, it's a girl.
I kinda' like your original look better, but this is pretty cool. Maybe the elder ones can be bonier, or maybe he gets that way if he's really sad or mad or something.

XD I had thought about that. Maybe that's what was going through my mind when I drew them.
The original design definitely fits my initial idea of him being more fluid and shape-shifter-like. I'll probably find some way to merge the two ideas together; I've just never got quite an idea like this before and I figure, experiment with it while it's still fresh in my head.
I did have a thought where the older ones could be lighter shades of grey, until they ultimately, perhaps, just fade from existance. That would make the middle figure older than the other two, which fell along the idea with that I had anyway.
