Description Please FULL-VIEW! You want details, don't you?

Why the long fingers? This creature does have wings, but I neglected to add them in.

The reason being, I didn’t shade where the wings -would- mask the arms in a lighter tone, as it would appear if the connective tissue were somewhat translucent.

I was going to add the wings in on PS, but that would look tacky.

But, anyway. I present to you possibly the best ballpoint pen piece I have ever created.

Huzzah.

I think I like it much better without wings; it becomes a slithering or even floating being!

You know, I agree; I don't suppose it needs wings at all. I'd rather leave it up to the viewer to decide how it moves about.

See, I couldn’t ever rush the shading, since that's how I start. By that I mean I don't draw any line art or sketch the figure I have in mind. It's all entirely spontaneous. All drawn by tone... if that makes any sense at all.

That is some really phenomenal shading there. The design of the creature is really neat and original too.

It's funny, 'cause I don't even remember shading most if it. I'm not too sure how I managed it, really. It was, like, an outer-body experience or something.

Aw, c’mon - it’s not that scary!

Besides, it has a fat head, which I imagine is rather difficult to support. So, it’s big fat head would be pointed down most of the time.

And thus, you’d never see that oh so scary face.

Ha-ha… I just noticed how large the head seems in comparison to the body… Oh well.

Oh, and thanks for the !

Hmm, I feel very much like taking your last comment (or rather: flattering compliment xD), paste it in here and replace coloured pencils with ballpoint pen. I've seen other people's ballpoint pics .. but THIS one is just .. WOW!
I could say "I could never do this myself" .. but since I've never tried (and certainly will never try) it would be nothing but an empty phrase. But yeah, you know what I'm trying to say, don't you?
I like well-done ballpoint pen pics. Cool style. Can't wait to see more .. I only wonder why there's no other comment here :/

Thanks for the kind words, they’re much appreciated .
Tell you what, though, some people on DA can do unreal things with ballpoint. I’m still playing around with it, but I think I can see my own individual style coming through. Maybe. Heh.

Oh, and you should try out ballpoint pen – it’s an awesome medium. It really is. It’s good for lazy people like me, ‘cause you more or less get the piece done with a single pen during the one sitting.

Sure, there's always somebody who's doing bigger/better/more impressive stuff than you (or me .. or anybody else) But I think finding your individual way of drawing is more important than anything else. I'd rather view people's original (and maybe non-perfect) works than the millionth super-duper-style-copied-fanart or stuff like that.

Concerning "try it out yourself" .. hmm, I don't think I will. I've done some small notepad scribbles with ballpoints when I was in school. But it wasn't something I think will spend a lot of time with. Simply not my medium .. I don't even like them for writing. I've used ballpoints for writing in school .. 5th grade or so .. and it totally ruined my handwriting. But that's another boring story that certainly nobody wants to hear XD

About fan art done to the nth degree, I agree – but tell you what, even if it’s a little crap, people won’t hesitate to favourite it. It’s a pain for people who create their own, novel characters; however, the power of fan art is great and mighty. I try to stay away from it, but only because my philosophy is: if you can’t exactly replicate the character, then don’t bother. Or use original line art if you can. It’s really pedantic, I know, but fan art is too often abused.

--Whew. I’ll just end that little rant right now if you don’t mind. Digress, much? (ha-ha)

Problem with ballpoint, I found, is that regular pencil work becomes somewhat of a chore and rather tedious. So, maybe it's a good thing that you don't like it.
