Description My dear friend AtreJane restored the picture of my greatgrandfather for me! Thanks to u!

In 1939 the war-year he married my greatgrandma and after a few months he had to serve in the Wehrmacht. That was rather bad for them, they wanted to get a nice family and live in peace. And that is why my greatgrandma disliked Hitler. He could come home sometimes for holidays, but not often. And then he died 1942 just 3 years later in Russia.

It´s so mean that many people believe in stereotypes and think all Germans were evil Nazis. Many didn´t want that war and just had a normal family. They felt also love and sadness. It broke her heart, when she got the message, that he died! Many of his comrades wrote to her sad letters to make her feel better.

Don´t believe in stupid stereotypes! Yes a criminal government led Germany, but that didn´t mean everyone thought like them.

Here's a picture of my dad and I hope you can see some what of a resemblance. [link]

Actually your greatgrandfather looks like a twin of my grandfather. I might have to put a picture up of my grandfather.

RIP to him.

Honor to your great-grandfather. I can understand completely why your great-grandmom would hate Hitler.

It's hard for people to understand the concept of Germans during that era; we try to tell them about it, but most people don't want to hear it.

Thank you comrade!

No most people, also the Germans do not know in detail, how the people felt
and what they really thought. I know once Göbbels said, that the military-movies
are not very in, because the people don´t want to think about the war, but
see normal movies.
The Germans were not mad about war, nearly every family lost at least one person.

I respect soldiers from all sides, who fought honestly! Criminals no matter which side,
deserve no respect.

Exactly. I cannot research my family in Hamburg because the paperwork was lost in the bombings; and even here I find it difficult because people associate my German heritage with something more sinister than it was.

How sad Well, not everybody was in NSDAP or in the army, because he/she wanted. There were many histories like that. Do you know, where he died? On the front, or in battle?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arminius1871 In reply to MissCath [2011-10-13 06:16:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes I know it. He was with comrades in a bunker at the
east-front at Leningrad (St. Petersburg) and his comrades
played cards, while he was the watchman. Suddenly a bomb hit
the bunker and because he was at the top as a watch-man he
died immediately.
If he had only played cards, too, he would´ve survived that day...

Indeed, sometimes whole groups were made to NSDAP-members, without knowing it!

Oh, what a terrible accicent But nobody knows, what is waiting for him/her... And I think that everyone has at least one person in family, who died/was killed during WW2. Like my uncle for example.

Arminius1871 In reply to MissCath [2011-10-13 13:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Yes surely, and that´s why I´m so sorry for every family, who had to suffer. Like the grandma of my dad, she is from Poland and was captured and brought to Germany to work.
She didn´t see much of her family after that, because she didn´t want to go back, because the Sowjets controlled it, so she stayed in Germany, and Bavaria wasn´t that bad

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MissCath In reply to Arminius1871 [2011-10-13 14:21:35 +0000 UTC]

So, she was young. But she was lucky, that she wanted to stay in Bavaria - at least life there was much better, than in communistic Poland.
One of my uncles was captured and brought to Germany to work too. And one (my grandma's brother) was killed by Ukrainians or Germans, I don't really know. And I'm not sure, why - he was tortured earlier, and next he died because of injuries. Maybe he knew something (he was a partisan) or maybe just because he was Pole. Anyway, war is a bad thing. For every side, there are no winners.

the problem is now than historiography make looks since the unification(ie 1870) the Bismarckian goverment and the militaries were the proto-nazies(i've heated and long debated about that incoutable timea) and that all the evils of both wars were blame of germans(ie was big politics messing us as always, the paranoia of nations..)

In general is nice having some memories of your family, even sad, that is honor than your greatgrandfather was part of some of history

Arminius1871 In reply to NivekVonBeldo [2011-10-12 20:21:31 +0000 UTC]

So you´re someone who believes in that theorie, that a german nation could only lead to Nazism? If yes I don´t agree. It was the special situation after the 1. world war that gave Hitler the chance to rise. Without all the chaos and crisis, he´d never become Chancellor.

Also the French and Brits were very nationalistic and also racistic, if they had lost, maybe they had formed after many crisis a racistic empire, too.

NivekVonBeldo In reply to Arminius1871 [2011-10-12 22:29:17 +0000 UTC]

not, I critized that theory. product of black propaganda from the old entente nations.

that is true, in fact the dreyfuss affair was a close call in france.

I'm sorry that this handsome and strong man was killed and his wife became a widow ...
People and nations are not to blame. It is selfish and predatory government policies, which plunge the nation into various murderous war.
The death of this man - and millions of other people, both Russian and German - on the conscience of the rulers, as well on the conscience of the bankers and industrialists who profited from the war.

Arminius1871 In reply to Ferrabra [2011-10-11 14:19:42 +0000 UTC]

That´s so true, both sides were so poor, they had to die for stupid dictators. But there´re many people, that got much money from the world-wars that´s true too.

For example american oil-companys sold oil to Spain and Switzerland, and they knew, that they sell it on to Germany. So many american companies brought the oil for the german war!

So strange...

I believe that the Russian and German - are fraternal nations, which are deliberately pushed into a war with each other.
In the words of a proverb, "If all the soldiers knew where to shoot, then the war would not be at all" ...

Very nice, my compliments to AtreJane.

And R.I.P.

I've always thought that stereotype was so unfair as well. Some of my relatives lived through the war, and the stories they tell - well, none of them are pro-Hitler, and very few could have been pro-Hitler during the war. Besides, with so many people on Hitler's side, because of propaganda or fear, what did the soldiers who didn't agree with him, really have to do? Standing against him would only have meant an even more untimely death for them. And the civilians were in an even worse position.

(Also, my grandfather would have been in WW2 if he had stayed in Germany, and your great-grandfather was in the war... does that make me one generation older than you? o.O That's really weird!)

Thank you so much!

Soldiers who didn´t obey, were sent to the camp as anti-regime-enemy and also the whole family sometimes. Actually the Germans didn´t want any new war after that horrible 1. world war, which was also very bad, but Hitler forced them...

You must imagine, the years before the war, Hitler was seen as a peace-chancellor, he promised a thousand times, he wants peace, olympic games and just unite with the other german regions and bringing work, and he really did that, but at the end he wanted war.

Someone told me from the psychological aspect, that many events in his life made him what he became. The father who beated him, the artist-school that didn´t allow him to study, the 1. world war that was lost. All that made him this crazy guy.

Indeed, many do not know, that Hitler read much about occultism. Also all the symbols he used, are extremely old and spiritual symbols. The Swastica is 5000 years old for example.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shibamage In reply to Arminius1871 [2011-10-11 14:12:18 +0000 UTC]

I heard the Swastika was an Eastern symbol, for something very un-Nazi-like, like peace or something.

I also read (okay, someone read it to me, and unfortunately I can't remember from what book it came from) that a large part of the SS was involved in occultism.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arminius1871 In reply to shibamage [2011-10-11 14:18:10 +0000 UTC]

Yes, there was a society, called Thule-society (it´s also in wikipedia) and this was an occult society, that influenced the DAP, which became then the NSDAP, the party of Hitler.

They said, Thule is (like Atlantis) a mythic continent that was once north of Scandinavia in times, when the earth climate was different and the whites come from there.

And well, Aryans really existed, they were a southern tribe of the Indogermanics 5000 years ago, and they invaded then in the middle east and India, that´s why all that languages are related. And the symbol of them was the Swastica.
And so Hitler said, all whites must be called Aryans and the 5000 year old swastica must be their symbol. It meant sun, luck and peace. Also Iran and Iraq mean translated, land of the Aryans. And Aryan means son of the sun.

It´s so hard, that actually, all words and symbols Hitler used, existed already before! Only his hair-cut is original hahahaha.

Hahaha, yeah!

I agree with you completely on those stupid stereotypes! I think it was my Great-Grandfather who fought in World War 1 on the German side as a medic. He was Jewish, so it's not like all of German history is harmful to Jews, just World War 2, really. I mean, what about all the Jews that fled Germany? How can people say they are Nazis?
