Entry for 's OC goron contest

Almost didn't make the deadline, but I finally finished him. Darkhani, the Goron Defender of Ikana. Certainly one of the best times I've had creating a character in a long time. Seem's my Red-Lynx has infected me with the goron bug, so how could I resist a good excuse to make a fun goron character like this.

Skills/Abilities:

Guardian's Mask: The mask of the old line of Goron Defenders of Ikana, which allows them to remain safe amongst the many living-dead inhabitants that now exist in the canyon. This is due to the mask marking him as a person of "High Ikanian Status".

Ancient Tongue of Ikana: Darkhani was taught the old language of the Ikana by his father. The language, in correlation to the status of his mask, allows Darkhani to lightly converse and even slightly control the restless dead he is now sworn to protect.

Bio : Darkhani is the eleventh generation of an old Goron family that served as bodyguards to the kings of Ikana, as well as representatives of the Snowhead Goron tribe. The original Canyon Guardian was the brother of one of the old patriarchs, and over many years the Goron Guard came to be held in high regard, both for their stubborn, unflinching loyalty to their adopted kingdom, and for their near unpiered strength, matched with the master Ikanian sword skills passed to them from the King's royal guard.

The third Guardian managed to survive the swift, Garo-crafted fall of Ikana. The shame wrought in his failure to protect the royal family, and the kingdom that his forebearers had tirelessly guarded, left him with a great personal shame. Thus in penance, he swore that himself and all his future descendants would protect the remains of the fallen kingdom and the cursed souls of the fallen that now must roam without rest about the shattered land for eternity.

Darkhani is the current Canyon Guardian. He takes to his role with a grim, stoic duty, protecting what little remains of the Ikanan lands and tombs. He doles out violent retribution to all would-be-graverobbers lucky enough to survive the living-dead and unfortunate enough be caught under his watchful eye.

Darkhani was trained by both his father and grandfather: Daraoh and Darey. His father Daraoh has taken up much of the training of Darkhani's own son, Daroi, preparing the young Goron for when the time comes for him to take up the Guardian's Mask and its grim duty.

Few occasions allow for the dauntless, dutiful Goron to leave his ancient post. One of which is the only true break he ever gets: the Carnival of Time. Every year during the carnival, he and his family travel down to clock town for a single day, and can be found telling and performing the old, forgotten tales of the Ikana, to a very often frightened, curious and occasionally mystified crowd. The other two reasons for his absence are dealing with local Garo infiltrations that catch his ear, and answering great pleas for help from his distant relatives of the Snowhead Mountains.

Inspiration : When I read aobut this goron contest and decided to enter I thought I'd really flesh out a cool character idea. The Ikana in Majora's mask were never really super deeply explored, and I thought it would be great to have a goron out there defending the remains of the lost kingdom. Not to mention that Ikana look makes for some sweet goron tatoo's and constume designs. Most of his outfit is a mix of the Ikana Stalfos and Iron Knuckles from Majora's Mask. his sword's blade was heavily influenced by the Darknut in the temple of time in TP. was a huge overall inspiration for him, really helped me figure out where to go with him.
