I wouldn't be able to tell you precisely, but I believe it is more for freight and am-track. I could be wrong though.

I noticed the overhead catenary, that's why. Only Metra-Electric and the South Bend use catenary in Chicago. Or does Amtrak use part of the line to get to/from Chicago?
