Description I really love Merlock and I was bored (obviously) so I drew a quick sketch. One day I'll finally move my arse and I'll draw it as a full artpiece, but for now I'm too lazy and too overwhelmed with all different concepts to do that.
I got this idea from reading
jinglebellfic  's Riptide Lover  fanfiction, although it was my first take and this is NOT how I see Sherlock in this fanfic. Nevertheless, if you haven't read it yet - what are you still doing here?
Sherlock belongs to BBC

Merlock, mer-anything really, is one of my favorite AUs.  Mermen tend to be solitary and have very little regard for humans, at least in accounts of the merrows and other merfolk that I've read.  Not to mention, being creatures of the ocean, merpeople, along with sea turtles, dolphins, and whales, are often connected with deep unseen knowledge.  Perfect for Sherlock, naturally.

Thank you for such a delightful, detailed comment, By the way, have you read the Riptide Lover? You should definitely read it, it's pure gold (thanks to it I'm this into Merlock).

I was into it without reading Riptide Lover.  Actually, I've written my own version of it where Sherlock was an accomplished scholar and wizard in another world before he came to ours in the 21st century.  He gave up his first love (She would have been his wife.), and the ability to feel any emotion related to love, so he could continue to serve his kingdom.  He was going to die otherwise.  He was transformed into a merman, the only creature who was as cold and unfeeling as a person without a heart, which his first love took upon herself to make sure that one day, when and if he found love again, he could live out his days in happiness.
It's rather sad really.

It does sound sad indeed.

And you'll be surprised to learn his first love, at least in my universe, was Morgana le Fay.  She gained the epithet "The Witch with Two Hearts" after this encounter with the spirit of all evil, the one who turned her would-be husband into a merman and gave her his heart to keep.  Now, having an enchanted heart within her breast, she could not die (From several accounts I've read, merpeople are long lived if not immortal, and they age more slowly than humans if at all.), but she had to deal with feeling emotions twice as strongly as any other person, magical or mortal.
The worst part of it all?  Sherlock chides her for having such compassion for others, especially for the one who tore them apart.  It's like he doesn't remember being in love with her at all, but they still maintain a strong "fellow scholars" connection over the next three centuries.  They were even embracing each other when their world came to an end and they were reborn in our world.

I like the airs. They are very nicely done.

Thank you, but I have to say, you're the second person who called his ears 'airs', I think it's quite a common typo
