Seriously. That saying? It doesn't mean what you think it means.

The reason it's "never lupus" is because someone should have diagnosed it before it reached House's team. He treats mystery problems, remember? And the reason it gets suggested anyway is because lupus is a bastard that attacks... oh, everything, when it wants to.

The diagnosis process for lupus is a checklist. Chances are good that anyone who reaches House has already had that ruled out. Possibly even by the rare and mysterious competent endocrinologist (gasp!). And even then, he had one guy who had a... pretty odd version of it, which is probably why it slipped through the cracks.

But it's a common reaction when you tell someone you have lupus, for them to quote this show. Usually they think they're being cute or witty, or they're just salivating at the sound of the bell. ("Hey, I have a quote that comes directly to mind at the sound of that word. I should spout it off!")

Those people, I don't tend to get angry at, particularly if they don't do it again after my eye-roll.

But sometimes, people do it specifically to be assholes. Particularly on the internet where they can post macros of House all over their "replies".

Which is just all kinds of fucking precious, isn't it.
