Description One of my favorite books of all time is "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells. Lego's model of a Tripod was okay, but it looked pretty ridiculous. I was thinking of the Tripods from the Tom Cruise movie, not the strange-looking ones from the 1950s film. Some improvements had to be made.

For starters I extended the legs, but that just wasn't enough, the head on top of the machine needed to be redone. I salvaged some bits from here and there and, voila, came up with this beauty. The legs and the death ray are almost completely straight from the original kit (no point in fixing the parts I already liked), but the head is a complete custom.

Tell me what you guys think!

Wow, awesome Lego work there. The head look almost exactly like they do in the movie

War of the Worlds is probably my favourite sci-fi book as well. I loved what they did with the tripods in the Tom Cruise movie - very faithful to how they were described in the book.

Thank you. It was a test of my Lego Master skills to make this, but it came out alright in the end.

Oh, I'm a fan of a number of the classics... The Great Gatsby, All Quiet on the Western Front and War of the Worlds were all books I thoroughly enjoyed reading. (SOME of the classics; I have never found Charles Dickens to be very palatable.) My favorite book is still Tolkien's Silmarillion!

This is a nice slimmed-down version of the model-I like it.

Ah, Bleu-Ninja, nice to hear from you again! Things going well for you I hope?

Anyways, thank you. I spent a fair bit of time trying to hash this together... as it turns out, that ugly Nute Gunray speeder I'd received a year back was good for something, it donated a lot of slope bricks to this particular creation.

The Tripod was a beast in the last wargame I used it in. Many skeletons and undead knights ended up voiped by its magnificent 4d10-damage Heat Ray!

I'm a bit of a Lego Master, I must admit. It's my sculptural medium of choice!
