Description It may seem odd but I have always taken Disney heroines as just cartoon characters, absolutely separate from the original fairytales.
But one day I came across Failinginart 's picture , and it had prompted me to make my own version.

I followed historical accuracy, fairytale's desctiption, media representation and my own notions.
My favourites here are Cinderella, Alice, Belle and princess from Aladdin.

1st row

 Snow White
I tried to make her look medieval or at least early Renaissance, hence the net hairstyle. I chose the deep red colour because of the quite dark atmosphere of the fairytale.

Cinderella
In one version of the fairytale, her dress is described as a luxurious garment of gold and silver, hence the colours. Also I was inspired by Ann Golon's books about Angelique where she wore golden dresses, so I chose the time to be Baroque.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
Her dress is fairly close to the original book's illustration. The dark hair and lilac dress's colour were inspired by the wonderful 2011 ballet "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".

 Peter Pan
Her character is described as soft and caring, so I thought soft pink and cream would suit her. The dress is based on the first American edition's illustration .

2nd row

 Sleeping Beauty
I was mostly inspired by her wedding dress from "Sleeping Beauty" ballet's 2000 French staging, according to what I chose dress colours and style (in that staging, she is supposed to be awakened by Louis XV so the time is mid Rococo).
Here  I tried to recreate the ballet costume itself.

The Little Mermaid
I have always imagined her as green-tailed, pale-skinned and with marvellous golden hair, what was so pretty that the witch asked them as the price for human legs.

 Beauty and the Beast

It was inspired by the 1946 French film La Belle et la Bête , where one of Belle's dresses resembles an early Baroque gown. Although the film is black and white, I believe it should be something light, white or light blue. And the white rose means to me the purity of her soul.

 Aladdin
Due to the fact that the very first variant of the fairytale I read for some reason took place in Arabian India, I decided to make the heroine Indian.

3rd row

 Notre Dame de Paris
Esmeralda is dressed in style of Gypsies from "Paquita" balet. Also she wears a small bag traced with green beads (that was the cause of her name), containing her child's bootee, the only thing that she had managed to save from her past life.

 Hercules
Megara wears purple, for me this colour means pride and jealousy - her character's features from the myth.

 The Princess and the Frog
I wanted to make something really fairytale-looking, so I chose mid 1500s Renaissance.

 Rapunzel
Rapunzel is a German name for a certain plant, it is called corn salad in English. But in some English translations, the heroine was named after rampion plant, which is a relative of bluebell. So I always imagined her in blue.

Dolls were made in Heroine Fan-Art creator  by Azalea , I changed the colours and somewhere the dress shapes.

Unfortunately I cannot find the authors of the rose pattern from Sleeeping Beauty's dress and border brushes from Princess's green dress.
Paisley golden pattern - from some site in Internet.

P.S. If you see my deviation, give a comment please. It's very important for me to know what you think about it.

Actually, it's based on another story called the frog princess (not the Russian one) which has the same plot. A princess kisses the cursed frog prince, but turns into a frog.

jus relized, I never commented on this... I REALLY DO LOVE IT!!! my favorite is the Alice Figure/Doll as Alice in Wonderland is my fave book an fave Disney movie...

Also, The Alice Dress, would you wear It?

an also, What do ya think of the part when Alice falls down the rabbit hole?

Thank you   I am glad that you like it, although this is an old work.

As for Alice's dress, I guess it is not exactly something I would wear. The length is perfect, but I would prefer a but more open top, like in the Sleeping Beauty, Belle and Rapunzel's dresses from this picture.

With regard to the ''down the rabbit hole'' part, I fear I have not read the book in a while by now to remember the details. But it always seemed to me that rather than being ''falling down'' it is actually moving up, forward to the adventures.

Ok. an yer very welcome... Also if you were wearing the alice dress in this picture, like in the 1951 Disney Movie, what would you say when ya fall down the rabbit hole an the wind rushing up yer skirt causes your Alice Dress to go, POOF!!! an Puff up like a parachute?

Arrelline In reply to K2-REAPER [2019-10-25 17:08:47 +0000 UTC]

I would say she was lucky to wear a dress with a skirt long and wide enough to act as a parachute

I noticed something funny: In the Disney films, Belle is Portrayed in a yellow *coughgoldcough* dress, and Cinderella in a silvery blue dress. Belle is portrayed having brown hair, and Cinderella as having blonde hair. Here, you pretty much reversed it! XD

Also, 'Peter Pan' would be Wendy, and 'Aladdin' I believe would be Princess Jasmine? All the others, It's obvious, but those two aren't exactly clear, personally...

Finally, I find it interesting that your images of Esmeralda and Megara are almost exactly like Disney's portrayal of them! But yeah...

ACTUAL Finally, this is really cool!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arrelline In reply to Janinna [2015-07-08 18:17:00 +0000 UTC]

"reversed"... It's a just remark, I think. Although I didn't intend that. I simply was inspired by different things. Thanks to the black and white old but yet good film I would rather imagine Belle as blonde. And as to Cinderella, now due to a few films I imagine her having eaither brown or red hair. And I have already written why I chose their colours.

Regarding the princess from "Aladdin". In the fairytale I once read her name was Boudur or something like that because for some reason the story took place in India. However the fairytale is the same as well as the female character corresponds to princess Jasmine from Disney film.

And about two your final notes. Not quite really.
As you know, in Disney Esmeralda is gypsy with green eyes, and I made her European (what she was in the book) but with hazel eyes. yes, i kept the general style of her clothes because it agrred with the story.
And concerning Megara it's just a coincidence that Disney desided to make her outfit quite historically accurate .

Anyway, thank you for the comment . I appreciate any feedback very much .

Lol, I WAS talking mostly about the clothes. The last time I saw Hunchback of Notre Dame, I believe I wasn't even 12. I'm 16. I would've had to look up a picture in order to know about the eyes thing. And, honestly, one of the only reasons I could say the clothes thing is that I've seen splashes of the movie a couple of times, and my memory is just weird like that... Plus I'm a visual-kinesthetic learner, so I remember things better if I see or do them... But not always... < : D I live in a large small-town, I've lived here quite literally my ENTIRE LIFE, and I STILL don't know my way around very well!

I really like how you did Esmeralda, I nearly forgotten about that little bag she wore in the original story. but I didn't really know that she was called that because of wearing it. for the Disney version, 'esmeralda' is Spanish for emerald so they gave her green eyes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Arrelline In reply to aotearoa-geek13 [2014-11-26 09:52:18 +0000 UTC]

No, she was French and had hazel eyes. She had been kidnapped by Gipsies and raised in Spain, so they gave her Spanish name "Esmeralda" what means "emerald" because of her little bag traced with green beads.
