Description
THIS IS A CLOSED TRIBE, PLEASE DON'T MAKE AN AVEWING WITHOUT MY PERMISSION.
ORIGINAL OWNER/IMAGE CREATOR: Sahel-Solitude
Name: AveWings
Description:
AveWings are lithe, and aerodynamic dragons, though bipedal. They have evolved to have stronger hind legs for running starts when about to fly. Their smaller front arms are however, very well suited for weaving and crafting. A coat of down feathers covers an AveWing's chest, shoulders, and biceps. Their forearms stick out from it beginning at the elbow. They have feathered wings and a down feathered tail. Both males and female have a crest of feathers around their head, though it is slightly larger in males (female drawn). A young adult AveWing (at seven years) is typically six feet tall. They're a relatively small species. Colors range from monochrome and browns (typical) to vibrant greens, reds, blues, and yellows (royalty or genetic disorder). Eye colors are typically black, though can come in shades of orange, red, yellow. Darker variations of other colors can also be found. Silver eyes are the rarest.
Abilities:
Very capable in combat, fast and strong, but easily injured. The feathered sections of an AveWing's body are poorly protected. Their breath weapon is a gas that irritates the nostrils and eyes, but doesn't cause any lasting damage. Typically, AveWings stay away from using their forelegs in battle, as they are shorter than average and very close to their unprotected chest. They have a knack for creating basic tools and have a thirst for knowledge that cannot be quenched. AveWings have been noted to use long range weapons (spears and bows) with their forearms since their breath weapon can only travel so far, and have no other ranged attack.
Location: Between the Jade Mountain range and the rainforest.
Queen: Queen Hawk
Alliances: They have encounters with the SkyWings often, which often results in skirmishes for land. However, land aside, the AveWings respect the SkyWings, and view them as a possible ally. The RainWings are trade partners with the AveWings, as they live within close proximity of each other. The AveWings don't seem to mind the MudWings, though are slightly intimidated by their size. They dislike the NightWings for their condescending approach to things and attempts to "study" the AveWings.
Strengths, Weaknesses, Diet, etc
Strengths:
The AveWings are intelligent and physically capable. They have extended knowledge over tool use. Sharp talons and agility in flight are also some key strengths. Many have sharp eyesight (some at day, some at night).
Weaknesses:
Their chests and wings are not as well protected as the other parts of the body, and can be injured easily. Short forearms limit their range of attack. Their breath weapon cannot cause lasting damage, and is only good for distractions in battle. High metabolism requires lots of food, which can be hard if there is a prey shortage.
Diet:
AveWings consume meats (though they don't eat birds for their similarities), insects, grains, fish, and vegetation. They tend to be picky about what goes in and what doesn't, and like to prepare their food before consumption.
Powers/Mutations:
AveWings killed off their animus bloodline, much like the SkyWings. Albinism and melanism are possible, though rare.
Some AveWings are born without their crest, coat of down, wing feathers, and tail down. They are flightless and often take up weaving and building.
Lifespan: AveWings tend to live for about 130 years, shorter than usual. Though there have been cases as long as 200 and as short as 50.
Leading Causes of Death:
AveWings tend to die by fire. This is because of their plumage. The feathers ignite very quickly and easily. Spreading usually is confined to the head, tail, and chest, two of which are vital areas. Because of this, AveWings don't risk blacksmithing and trade for forged items instead.
Overall Attitude:
AveWings are fast paced, and tend to talk a lot. They seem more intent on seeming like a relaxed tribe than angry or short tempered. When encountering something foreign to them, their process of thinking will be similar to this:
Will it potentially kill me?
Will it potentially hurt me?
What does it do?
Will it be useful to the tribe?
Culture, History, etc.
Foreign Affairs:
The SkyWings and AveWings are constantly in an on-off relationship. While they both respect each other for their formidability or achievements, they often get into fights about land. RainWings and AveWings have been on good terms for as long any of the two tribes could remember. AveWings have a natural hatred for NightWings, since at one point, the NightWings decided to capture a few AveWings to "study". The captured AveWings were killed so that they wouldn't tell anyone about the true NightWing intentions at the time.
History:
Rumor has it that AveWings are more closely related to birds and reptiles than dragons. Actually, however, they descended from feathered dinosaurs and were isolated as a society for some time (so that there were no interbreeding interfering with the evolution).
Architecture/Weaving:
The AveWings aren't as skilled at architecture as they are at weaving and crafting, since their forearms aren't too strong. Though there are buildings in AveWing society, most prefer to live in pre-existing shelters, such as a cave, or a convenient tangle of tree branches that creates a roof. Often, if they can, AveWings will attempt to expand existing shelters.
Wars:
AveWings didn't participate in many official wars, though small battles throughout history have been noted.
-Post Scorching SkyWing border battle
When the first boundaries were being made, the SkyWings and AveWings fought over pieces of land each wanted to claim. The SkyWings, having fire, won many of them, though the AveWings managed to claim a small portion.
-Attempted rescue of captured AveWings
Pretty self-explanatory, the AveWings tried to free their comrades from the NightWing lab and failed, losing their captured brethren in the process.
They did not try to make them selves known after that, in fear they'd be captured again.
Structure:
There is a set hierarchy in the AveWing society. Most of it is based off of skill, royal status, or military ranking. The lowest ranking are the weavers, hunters, and gatherers. Merchants and shop owners come next. Then the army, which is all ruled by the royal family.
Trade:
AveWings are gifted weavers, and tend to create baskets, curtains, mats, and apparel from twigs and straw. Not many natural resources (oil, treasure, metal, etc) can be found in their territory, though there is an abundance of wood. Sometimes, AveWings attempt to create something from their shed down feathers.
Names:
AveWings are named after birds, trees, and things birds possess. Nicknames are common amongst AveWings. Sometimes, an AveWing is so often called by a nickname, they forget their original name, making their nickname their normal name.
(ex. "Maple" could be "Mapy")
Royal Family:
Queen Hawk is a relatively new queen, having just overthrown her sister, Parrot. There is no king at the moment, though Falcon is seeking one out. Parrot had dragonets, one of which, is here, Prince Macaw:
Culture:
The AveWings have no official religion, but plenty of superstitions. Such involve how the dead are dealt with. When an AveWing dies, they are sorted, the good, the evil, and the neutral. All three are reborn, though the evil loose all of their memories and are commonly reborn as insects and worms. The good and neutral sometimes keep a few memories, though they are very vague. They are reborn as dragons, and the best are reborn as AveWings of a higher ranking. The number of feathers on each side of an AveWing's crest are thought to represent the amount to lives their soul has lived.
To dispose of the dead, they are buried with some of their most favorite possessions, which may trigger memories for the reborn soul.
