Hello,
Tara is a dear friend of mine, she loves to create for all her fans and customers. She works very hard to create these awesome pieces of jewelry. So to have another artist come along and recreate her work without permission is very upsetting to those of use who know exactly how hard she works and how much of herself she puts into these designs. To publish these works is even more upsetting. Imagine how you feel if you put your time, blood, sweat and tears into a project then some body else comes along, recreates you designs, then belittles the design process by essentially stating how easy it was to make. It is not right, that is why we have copy right laws. And I am sure Tara is very flattered that you like her designs enough to have the desire to make them, calling them a tribute is still not an excuse for recreating the design with permission. In my personal opinion, if she wanted her work recreated, she would sell tutorials. Maybe next you should contact the artist you want to copy and make sure it is ok to copy that work before you do so, and especially before you publish as your own work. Again, using the word tribute does replace permission from the artist. Without that, it is just wrong. No matter what good intentions you may think you have. And yes, you are a very talented artist, you should be coming up with your designs.

Dear adsepulveda,
first of all, I sincerly apologize for the delayed response. I wasn't online for the last days.
I already got a similar mail from Tara herself earlier and was quite astonished and sad after reading it and yours. A bit disappointed as well I have to admit.
Though I understand your point of view, I at least want to take this chance to state mine as well.
First of all I am NOT an artist.
I studied medicine and earn my money otherwise. I'm doing steampunk and cosplay only as a hobby.
Second, though I have an etsy shop, where I offer two items I created myself (due to having been asked for them), I do NOT sell stuff professiojnaly or for a living. Especially not stuff, that is not completly my design.
Furthermore I have a different view on art itself. I think art lives from exchange. Only very view geniuses create masterpieces without any influence from other artists before him. As I consider Tara in her direction as a master, she is someone a beginner like me tries to follow. I'm sure in school you too had to study and draw like the old masters in art classes. I would dare to say, nobody started without any influence from somewhere before refining there own style over time. Is that copying too?
As stated before, I'm NOT selling this, I did this as a present for my girlfriend and I ALWAYS mention to ANYONE interested that the inspiration came from Tara.
Just this last weekend should have brought her more attention from Germany BECAUSE of my work, as my earrings were worn on a big steampunk festival. Promotion she gets for free. Gladly, I might add.
Also PLEASE not to confuse expressions here (especially no need to wave with "copy right laws"!):
I have NOT copied any specific design of Tara.
The design of this specific pair is my own. I only did wirework (which is certainly not her invention alone as I have seen many others doing that too) in HER STYLE. That's a difference.
To get back to the example of painting. Though I'm drawing in impressionist style like Monet, it won't be a copy of a Monet if I paint my own themes in it, is it?
Yes, Tara works very hard to create her awesome pieces and I already mentioned it in my items description, that her work is basically perfection, showing that amount of work she puts into it. I'm sure anyone who cares, sees the difference immediatly and certainly will appreciate it, so that they still won't hesitate to buy from her, even if a beginner managed to do something familiar as well.
From what you too wrote, it sounded, that I almost had to apologize, that my first attempt didn't look crummy and ugly, but decent enough that others did like it too.
That really hurts.
I'm very sorry that you have the feeling, that I want to take something away from her, which is not the case, or ruin her business, which isn't the case either, quite the opposite in my opinion, spreading her names recognition.
Again, I'm NOT an artist, I'm NOT a seller, I just did this for fun as a gift for my girlfriend.
You certainly don't have to agree, but at least I hope you can understand my point of view as well.
sincerly
Arsenal Best

I just adore Tara's work, so as soon as I saw this I recognized the style. I've been tempted to try something similar myself, but I'm so lazy, haha... I am very impressed with your first attempt at this, though! My first jewelry was terrible and clunky. 'XD These are gorgeous and have your own special touch to them that really makes them stand out, especially with the soft gold tones.

Ah I meant too lazy to craft jewelry at all lately. I'm sure once this awful winter finally gets over that I'll feel much more up to crafting again. And yeah, I know what you mean. I'm always looking at beautiful jewelry crafted by other's to get inspiration from, but I like to keep them original. XD Watch parts are incredibly tiny though and I've only just started using them in steam-punk styled jewelry. Someday I'll get around to taking pictures of my work so I can share it on here~
