The skin textures look great, but I agree with what was said about the skin reflections. They're a little artificial looking.

Aside from that, this is amazing.

if you testing it i will give you a feedback... now look at the neck reflections. in glossy plastics if you pour a water on it it will reflect like this. but, this is not plastic... :/ but skin is more likely a transculent material. it reflects when it is wet or it is really close to the object. except this skin only reflects the light,or glowing object(s). in this case the reflections on the left side( they are also "dark reflections"... in my opinion) must be abut %10 or between 0.100 and 0.200,when wet this value is higher. otherwise this is really perfect modeling

This guy reminds me of Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars. "I sense you wish to continue your search for young Skywalker." "Give in to your hate, Strike me down and your journey towards the dark side will be complete!" Yeah allot like him.

Are u working for the Best 3D companies out there? if not you should be. You are so close to bridging the gap of Uncanny Valley. I see the latest 3D movies and games on xbox/ps3 still have that fake symmetrical doll face look which bugs me out. They make everything like the environments, lighting and gravity so real but they fail on faces.

Hey, thanks for the kind words, you made my day!

No i am not working in films or games. I really want to be, but I need a better portfolio and I do not have much experience, so I usually get shot down early...I will keep trying though!

I know what you mean on faces. LA Noir looks pretty impressive though! check it out... [link]

It's all about the poly content evironments don't need as much. Games are limited in the amount of polygons though this is common knowledge and creating detailed faces raises the poly count considerably. it's a tough balance and there's tons of compromise.

What program was this rendered in?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Art-by-Smitty In reply to BJPentecost [2011-07-19 23:01:32 +0000 UTC]

I am using Maya. SSS shader written by Master Zap. using about 10-16 diff maps...(subdermal, epidermal, diff, normal, etc...)

thanks for commenting!

DOH! I have NEVER been able to get a decent render out of Maya. XC Too many fiddly render and light settings. XC Anyway, nice work.

Excellent facial detail. The lighting, materials and textures look very close to lifelike in the rendering. What program are you using for modeling? Zbrush? As for me I am a newbie to 3d modeling and like hardsurface modeling than organic. Just getting to grips with Lightwave 3D.

Out of curiosty what if you don't mind me asking how long did it take to render, what is the poly count and what is your hardware setup. I'll definetly be adding you to Deviant Watch, I like your work.

Thank you very very much!

I am using zbrush, max, and maya to model. Maya to Render with an SSS Shader written by master zap.

the polycount of the model is around 3k. the high res is about 5 mil. I got a decent computer with 8g of ram (needs more)

thanks for watchin and commenting!

It is being rendered in Maya too. Using subdermal, epidermal, diff, disp, normal, and other maps lol...
