How is there another group of paladins? I'll tell you:S3 EP4 "Hole in the sky" Shows us an alternate reality where the Alteans became the dominant species and started to take over instead of the Galra. In this they made little to no mention about that reality's Voltron, which made me think.
"If the Alteans won they would have only one paladin. King Alfor. He as Altean will want an all Altaen group of paladins. They wouldn't need the cannon group of humans."
SO in this reality King Alfor tries to find the right group of Alteans to pilot the lions. But in the canon reality King alfor sends them away because of Zarkon. so who sends them away this time to prevent Alfor from getting them? Zarkon.
The Lions are dispersed until like the canon reality they are needed again. Thus the search for the new paladins begin.
And that my friends is how you create a group of non-cliche realistic group of paladin ocs. ALTERNATE REALITIES. PLUS you get to make super cool looking aliens because the limits of space are endless and ever growing!

Ryo - Yellow paladin - He is full Galra
Terra - Red paladin - She is a Galra half breed
Asmith - Black paladin - He is a Altean half breed
