Why didn't they use Godzilla suit for the new film Godzilla 2014 Reboot? Why was Godzilla CGI? Godzilla is not supposed to be CGI. He was never CGI in Toho's Godzilla Film Franchise. Godzilla was supposed to be played by an actor in a suit. That's everyone favorite. Let me guess it's the year 2015 and we're in 2010s. In 2010s they no longer had person in a suit and animatronic for the movie anymore in these day. That's old school and retro. No wonder I didn't see any Godzilla suit in Behind the scenes Godzilla 2014 Reboot video on YouTube. I was wondering where was the heck is the Godzilla suit when I watched behind the scenes video. And then my thought was that maybe they didn't want to show the fans the new Godzilla suit because it will be a spoiler or something. My second thought was that they hadn't film the stunt stages fight scene where Godzilla suit fight a giant monster. But it turned out that there was never a Godzilla suit at all in the new movie. I can't believe the director and the crew members didn't want to use the suit this times. They ruined Godzilla. But at least they used the Godzilla suit in Godzilla 1998 Remake film. That's a good thing.

Gareth probably had this in mind since he clearly wanted to pay homage to Toho’s Godzilla, yet he figured using a suit instead of CGI would take away the realistic feel he wanted for Godzilla. A animatronic suit doesn’t have the expressive freedom or mobility to completely behave, look, and feel like a realistic creature as a CGI model would. The decision to make Godzilla and other Kaiju completely CGI turned out to be a good one because it gave the Kaiju the potential to fully express themselves freely and instill that lively aura in them. Whenever I watch movies like GMK or Godzilla Final Wars, I, of course, have tons of fun watching them but everytime Godzilla was on screen, it didn’t feel like he was real because he was just a guy in a suit. However, when I saw Godzilla 2014 for the first time, it just gave me the chills from how immersive everything was. I know that Legendary’s biggest strength is their phenomenal (is that spelled right?) but DAMN did they do a beyond amazing job with this film. Everytime I saw the CGI Godzilla appear on screen, I felt so tiny compared to him. It really felt like Godzilla was right there in front of me. Everytime he roared, chills crawled up my spine. All of his movements were extremely fluid and felt natural. When Godzilla 2014 was being developed, Gareth even looked into how Grizzly bears and Komodo dragons behave and fight to better design Godzilla’s behavior and fighting style. Look, I like the old school Godzilla suits, but understand that a suit would not have worked for Godzilla 2014. Every movie has a set of their own elements that must work together in order for the movie to smoothly and successfully flow. Godzilla 2014 is a movie mostly grounded in realism and as such, everything had to have a natural feel to it. Godzilla 2014 was meant to be a grounded disaster movie where we come in contact with titanic creatures that we cannot control. Godzilla himself manages to regain the key elements of Toho’s design (his saurian appearance, atomic breath, durability, aesthetics, etc.) and yet still feel like he was a creature that could’ve actually existed. If CGI Godzilla was replaced by a suit, it would ruin Godzilla 2014’s grounded atmosphere and defeated the purpose of Gareth’s goals to make his film and the Kaiju as realistic as possible. Do you understand?

Yes, now I truly understand. I guess Suit and Animatronic are no longer popular anymore. Suit and Animatronic are completely old and retro. CGI is way more popular nowadays. That will explained why I didn't see any Godzilla suit on behind the scenes of Godzilla 2014 film such as set photos, video and many other. It was entirely CGI all along.

Well, Toho is starting to make Godzilla movies again and Shin Godzilla was a animatronic suit. I heard Toho is going to make their own cinematic universe for Godzilla and they’ll most likely use a big mixture suits AND CGI.

Cool. It will be like the Legendnary MonsterVerse. Pretty awesome. Mixture suits and CGI will be the first time to interact with each other since Godzilla Final Wars in that case, there was a scene where Godzilla (Suit) fighting against Godzilla 1998 (CGI) at Sydney, Austraila. That scene was epic.

Edwards went for accuracy over tradition, something I admire. He wanted a more natural look and feel to Godzilla, and that required movements that couldn't be done with a 200 pound suit. Now, I'm all for animatronics in movies, and if used in conjunction with CGI, it can produce fantastic results like in Jurassic Park. But when you have a creature the size and scope of Godzilla and you want it to look natural and realistic? You have to use CGI.

Well, I suppose the studios are more used at using CGI than suits.
Besides, it's a matter of preference. I like both, for example.

For example Seasme Street still use puppet, animatronic, Suit since 1969. That's the longest running puppet, animatronic, and suit ever used. No way they're making Sesame Street characters into CGI because it will be strange. They didn't even want to update for CGI.

If Godzilla's a hero, then explain his actions in the 1954 movie, or the 1980 movie?
AND let's not forget the 90's Godzilla vs King Ghidorah when he blasts a human in the friggin face with his atomic breath.

FazbearClaim, Godzilla is a force of nature that cares not for mankind. We are insignificant to him. He brings back memories of nuclear devastation and Holocaust, memories that are too embedded in our subconscious. When fighting other monsters, he is fighting to defend himself and kill his enemies. He is no hero. A hero would not kill others to take out their enemies. Godzilla is the type of character that does what he wants whenever he wants. He is an intelligent and in some ways, sympathetic because he was the last of his kind, but atomic radiation turned him into the first. If you could analyze him more closely, as I have, he appears to be in constant pain, punishing us for what we did to him. You can deny all you want, those facts are true.

While i do agree with your claim that Godzilla has never or rarely shown any heroic actions, i also have to somewhat agree with FurureZootopiaFan. Emphasis on somewhat. While Godzilla certainly doesn't give three sh*ts about humans and would not spare his enemies (with the exception of the ending of the fight between himself, King Caesar, Anguirus, and Rodan.), in a really strange way, he's like a guardian. Especially when we are talking about Godzilla 2014. I like to think of Godzilla as a territorial guardian rather than a actual hero. While Godzilla will defend the Earth, and inadvertedly the animals and humans living on Earth, he does not show concern over the humans and/or makes any notion to protect them specifically. He pretty much is only concerned about the well being of his home and cares very little about what happens to the humans. And at times he will team up some kaiju he considers allies and stop whatever is threatening the Earth. That being said, most incarnations of Godzilla will go out of their way to destroy the humans attacking them. G2014 literally ignores the humans even when they try firing tanks at him. This kind of shows how Godzilla pretty much just ignores us rather than wanting to kill us. Godzilla is no true hero, rather a territorial guardian, as i previously mentioned.

Okay, I can agree with you there. Some of his actions, now that you mention it are almost like how Gamera was in the 90's: a guardian, only rising when needed. The big difference was that Gamera was meant to protect mankind but Godzilla was seeking revenge against the MUTO's, seeing as they're parasitic Kaiju. Since we only have one movies to go on, it really isn't much but since we're getting sequels in 2018 and 2020, we'll just have to see.

Also, i have a question. While Godzilla himself was not a hero, could Godzilla Jr. be considered a hero? Junior was more tolerant of humans than his father, he was pretty much raised by humans, and he saved the two women that were being attacked by the flying Crab Destroyah in Godzilla vs Destroyah.

Actually, I think there is a video about that subject on YouTube. But the answer isn't pretty. After the Baas Island incident, something changed Junior. He became more aggressive but his lightheartedness was still there until Destroyah flat out killed him. When he came back to life, he practically BECAME his dad. So no, Junior is not a hero

Right, but here is the thing that confuses me about your answer: i read that the Godzilla in the Millenium movies weren't actually Junior, but a different Godzilla. In fact, Godzilla 2000 and Godzilla vs Megaguirus both ignore all the events that happened before the Millenium series, except for the original 1954 film.

Well women do grow facial hair but they maintain their looks. Besides, Godzilla is always referred to as "He" or "It" but mostly "He". Also, King of the Monsters is a pretty specific title and I believe that TOHO actually classified Godzilla as a male.
And, in that 1998 bit of disrespect, a blood sample was collected in that film and blood can give the sex of an individual which is why Nick said, a "Very unusual 'He'"

JW-Gojifan In reply to Goji1327 [2015-12-06 20:50:21 +0000 UTC]
Actually, I researched it and even Harou Nakajima, the man who played Godzilla from the 50's to the 70's, didn't know Godzilla's gender. Also TOHO, never gave a specific gender to Godzilla. It was in America that Godzilla was called "HE". In Japan, He is gender neutral. However, if you've watched the original series, Minya was adopted by Godzilla and the baby from the 90's did not share the same aggressive nature as him. He didn't even share the look. Junior may be of the same family, but, like Minya, Junior was adopted by Godzilla.
There are some people who believe that Godzilla is a Hermaphrodite like Gyaos (Except they are all born female). The debate continues.
