Description scene 3: int. day. (a tight shot of d'arcy watching television. the camera is facing him, but you know he is watching the television by the reflections in his eyes. All that can be seen of him is his head and shoulders. He is taking up half of the shot, the right side.
Sam is sitting behind him, pen in hand, writing whatever he’s writing. He takes up a much smaller portion of his half of the shot. We see this arrangement for around 10 seconds. He is just slightly out of focus. He speaks)

Sam: man. That was a crazy fucking night. You got a good one last night bro!

(d’arcy doesn’t react)

sam: the d.j was rather good, I must say.

(still no reaction. Sam writes some more. He stops. Beat.)

Sam: (looking up) did you fuck her?

(d’arcy blinks, then bites his lip. Cut to a shot of d’arcy and kim making hot, wild, love in a montage similar to that of the one seen at the start. Indeed, the only difference is that d’arcy is a different guy. It will also be a few seconds longer.
The “pinion” sample is used again. The same squealing noise and slightly different flash of colour are used again. Cut back to the original shot. D’arcy looks slightly more awake).

D’arcy: ( quietly, without emotion) yes, I did.

(sam smiles and throws his head back)

sam: sweet! Sweet as a lemon!

(d’arcy smiles and lets a dismissive burst of air through his nostrils)

sam: (sitting up) is there anything the matter?

D’arcy: yeah…

(d’arcy turns round)

d’arcy: I think I’m in love…

(sam bursts out laughing. Only a few seconds into his laughing fit, the scene cuts to a black screen with the word “kim” in large, central white type. This lasts for a few seconds.
Cut to a bedroom, evening. We notice this is the bedroom in the very first scene. Several young women are sitting on a bed in the middle of the room, including kim. They are sharing friendly and giddy nuggets of conversation, punctuated with bursts of laughter. They are all in different states of readiness. They are obviously preparing for a night out. One of kim’s friends speaks)

Friend #1: (smiling, somewhat seductively, directed towards kim) so… any luck with that guy on Friday? I heard he’s quite the man, where it counts.

Kim: well so have i. It’s just getting him where it counts that’s the problem.

(more laughter)

kim: (continuing) no… I’m definitely not gonna date him anymore. He’s such a bore. All he talks about his his fucking job. I wouldn’t mind if he were a rockstar or a stuntman but he’s a bloody insurance salesman.
(laughter again)

kim: (continuing) I’m sick of men like that. Men who think they are attractive and think they are oh so good with women. Men who just spew endlessly about their bloody jobs. Isn’t there any interesting guys out there? All I’m asking for is a good shag and maybe some stimulating conversation afterwards!

(laughter again)

friend #2: well we’re going to a different club tonight. We’ll be with a more specialised group, I reckon.

Kim: where we going?

Friend #2: basement.

Kim: oh fucking hell, jan. why are we going there? It’s full of Goths and smelly punks. Also the music is so loud in there, and its not good music either. And everyone is about 16 in there! I don’t want to get done for shagging a kid do I?

Jan: jesus, kim give it a break! How long is it since you’ve been there? Last time I went with you was my 17th birthday. (recollecting) haha, remember that? We somehow got served all night. We got drunk on rum and coke. God that was ages ago, kim. Have you been since?

Kim: (louder, angrier) have I fuck! Bloody doss hole. Well, it’s your funeral, dear. I bet there’s no one older than us there.

Friend#1: is that a bad thing? I thought you liked them young?

(silence, kim has shocked expression on her face)

kim: (agitated) and what is that supposed to mean?
(before friend#1 can redeem herself from her obvious misplaced words, kim gets up and starts going)

kim: (angry) some fucking friend you are, Janice dawson!

(kim storms out, in a half dressed state, slamming the door. Janice laughs loudly and uncontrollably.)

jan: (still laughing) why did you say that? You know she’s touchy about the whole thing that happened with sam.

Friend#1: what thing?

Jan: you don’t know?

(friend#1 has an expression that answers in the negative)

jan: well, they went to the same school

(cut to kim and sam, younger, mid teens, in a school yard kissing passionately and holding each other)

jan: (now as the narrator) they were together for ages. First it started out real innocent, you know, the usual teenage stuff, passing notes, staring into each others eyes…

(cut to kim and sam lying on a bed together, still teenagers)

…but then it got more serious. Sam was a virgin when they met, he’d never touched a girl before. Kim showed him how to love a woman. Not once did she realise he was only 14! She was 19 at the time. Of course she wasn’t to know, because as he skived off school all the time, and was quite learned and insightful even back then he seemed like he was 20. he never told her his age because he thought she would leave him. She found out.

(cut to kim slamming the door on sam, then sam’s face looking folorn)

word got out they were dating. She got accused of child molestation. Nearly went to the courts as I can remember.
(cut back to the bedroom)

she still thinks about him all the time. She’s hardly ever had a relationship since. I know you didn’t know, but god, you just hurt her feelings. And now I’m gonna have to pick it all up! (she laughs again)

friend#1: what’s sam up to now?

Jan: he’s a drug dealer. Word is he’s doing well for himself, he’s got a whole gaggle of flunkie groupies around him that live with him. He probably can’t even remember who she was.

(kim comes through the door, her makeup smeared and her mascara running. She gets a few things from the dresser and pouts at the others. She leaves, closing the door slightly more civilly. We follow her in much the same way as we followed d’arcy earlier –  getting her coat on, walking down some streets, all in real time. A large man advances on her with a smile and with one thing obviously on his mind. She punches him in the groin as she walks past him and his friends laugh and jeer at him. It takes her only about 5 minutes to get to the “basement”. She sits in the chair she was sitting in where d’arcy found her earlier. The camera pans around the club for a while. It rests on the door, and soon after, kim’s friends come through. They see her and go and sit with her. The camera follows as they walk over and sit down. They look at kim. She looks at them for a few seconds)

kim: (indignantly) what!?

Cut.

Scene 4: int. evening. This is the same room, same shot as before with d’arcy and sam together. This time though, it is noticeably later. They are both sitting on the couch d’arcy  was on before and their faces are lit up by the light from a computer game. Noises can be heard coming from the television, obviously made by the game. The couple are sitting staring at the screen, engrossed in the game, every so often one of them twitches or curses as a result of the game. They speak, with no eye contact.

Sam: so this girl, yeah? How can you be in love with her? You’ve known her for like, a day, man. That isn’t long enough in my book.

D’arcy contemplates this notion for a while. Still concentrating on the game, he speaks.

D’arcy: let me tell you something, sam. I’ve never felt love in my entire life. all my life, I’ve just coasted through, making what I can, where I can. My parents kicked me out at 16, as you know, and I haven’t seen them in years. I’ve never kept down a job for more than a month. I’ve never had many girlfriends, and those I have had have been from fleeting moments of passion that ended in about 2 weeks. The only things I’m good at are pulling women, getting high, and tetris. But last night, last night,  I felt something I have never felt before. I felt a divine, fundamental connection with another human being. I felt like she knew me all my life and knew everything about me, and vice versa. This connection is something I’ve never felt before, it’s like an intrinsic knowledge that this person I have just met is the person that is the most tuned in, most amazing and most loveable person I have ever met, and for once, I actually feel something for someone past friendship. The time we have known each other does not matter. To me, what we have is much more than friendship, we got above that within the first few seconds. To me that’s such a weird but again such a divine experience. There I was, not looking for anything, just a quick in-out session, as you well know, but what I got was for more important than getting off or friendship. I have found my soulmate, the one, the love of my life. I daresay that if I ever lose her in some way I shall never love again. But I know what I feel is love. I don’t care how long I’ve known her, I love her, more than I have ever comprehended. She is the first thing that has ever mattered in my life. I have had no direction and no ambition up to last night, but right now, I want to do so much for her, I want to give her the world, I want to sing every song to her, I want to make her feel like a goddess… I’m sure you don’t understand. But I love her, and she loves me...

D’arcy looks across at sam and smiles. Sam is taken aback by this outburst and is looking at d’arcy in a strange way: he has never seen this side of his friend before. He is silent for a few seconds. Then we see his natural wryness return to his face. D’arcy then smiles as if he’s cracking up into laughter and then returns to playing the game. sam turns back to the game and continues to play. After a few seconds he speaks:

Sam: so… what’s this oh-so-wonderful girl’s name then?

D’arcy: kim.

Sam nods, a vacant expression on his face.

Cut.
