Interesting. I'm a fan of the English settling OTL Latin America but the borders do look a little blockish even for colonial divisions.

Not exactly. ITTL was existing a more full continuity between earlier Viking expeditions and the age of discoveries in this continent by other nations.
The main route of the first explorers and settlers was an old Viking route across the North Atlantic.
After returning a Scandinavian settlers to the Vinland, then came the Scots, was coming England and Germany. Spaniards appeared only in Brazil. Aztec Empire was broken (by English intrigues) to a gradually christianized small cities-states.
