stupid Q - am i supposed to delete all png files in default skin and replace with alfredo pngs or are the alfredo pngs in addition to... because it doesn't seem to be working whether i try either option - thanks!

No. You just copy the Alfredo folder to the Launchy skin folder (program files/launchy/skin).
