Description A spitpaint theme yesterday was Hades and I just jumped at the chance to draw something. The finished product was the more developed version, about two hours on in my moleskin with two 0.3 pencils (2H and B) a roll of paper and an eraser. Might rescan it later with better quality.

Sad that they have the healthiest marriage in the entire damn pantheon. I really like this the precise use of color among mostly grey scale is a nice touch and really makes it pop.

Lol, yeah they did! Such an epic and sensous story that also explains the death and rebirth of nature through winter. I love that Hades was the god of the underworld but he was neither villaneous (or any more so than the other gods, they were all pretty aweful) or particularly terrifying. I looked up a bunch of ancient Greek and Roman portraits to do this. Glad you liked the hinted use of coloring.

Hades was probably the/one of the best out of the bunch. He's basically that suburban math nerd dad, who really wishes more people were interested in his model trains.

I really love this style of sketching! Did you use any watercolors or inks (I'm referring to the aesthetically darkened hair haha) or is it all pencil? β™₯

I am so very happy you like it!! I used color pencil for the pomegranate and other tiny details but everything else was pencil. I did use a rolled paper smudging tool. That was super useful!!!

Yup!! I have struggled with smudges all my life, that's why I usually stick to watercolors, ink or digital... but I've always loved pencil and the shading versatility it has. Smudge tools combined with a drafting erasing stencil and finally a fixing spray make all of the difference...
