Very sensitive handling of the light and shadow. I love the colors which you have incorporated into this landscape, especially bringing the colors of the background ridge into the grass in the foreground. It really helps to tie the whole composition together!

Pastels! Every time I worked with them, I ended up getting more on me than the paper, lol!

Thanks Bob, as you know, I love color and playing with color. I want to do another piece or two on this beautiful scene and get it a little more right. In this one I was concentrating mostly on the color play. I think of it more as a study but a fairly finished one.

glad you liked it, looking forward to making another effort with it...of course I think I could do a few different interpretations of it, just as if I were going to the scene in person and working from the sight. It's just a really good local.

This is beautiful. I love the softness of the colors. You've captured that soft end of summer, almost autumn glow. I see touches of autumn colors in the background, and it reminds me so much of my drive through Pennsylvania and upstate New York this morning. We've had so much rain up here lately so the trees were erupting with color. In the early morning light they absolutely glowed. This picture...completely captures that atmosphere of lingering warmth and serenity.

Thanks, glad you liked it. I think her photo was actually early summer, but I did notice I was shifting the colors around to slightly fallish. The background hill started out being lavenders, blues and some olive colors to give it distance and a hazy, maybe early morning look. The shift really started when I got to the foreground and started having trouble with my pastel sticks and color and started trying to create light effects in the tree and adding lavender and gold to the grass. I think I'll try this next in oil.

There are some things I like about pastel and some things I don't. I'm still learning and wasn't able to do some things with this picture I wanted to do. I would say go for it. I've tried it several times off and on over the past few years and am finally getting into it.
