The colours.. so softly applied.. it really gives it a dreamy, hazy feel. I could just stare at this picture forever..

Nice, I like how you captured the feel and colours of the season. Great job.

Thanks. I did enhance the colors I was seeing, can't help it. Part of it is that I really don't like bland color, but mostly I just love playing with it and pushing it around to see what I can do with it.

True, but you managed to do so without it becoming a problem, i.e. making the fact you did enhance them not stick out like a sore thumb. I do similar things with my pencil work, I sometimes get carried away with contrast when shading.
When done correctly it can add a lot to the picture.

lol you haven't seen my really big, bad mistakes with color
they usually get ripped up and tossed across the room, hehe (because I spent hours and hours trying to make it work and reached my frustration level )

I really love this. I think it's partly because of the variety on the surface of the ground. Somehow it's just very appealing

I love the little girl behind the tree. Just before I blinked back to my list of other deviations, I saw her. It's because of her this is going to be a . Perfect touch.

Oh, this very much makes me think of something out of a fairy tale. It's very nostalgic. The earthy colors are very interesting for a snow scene! I like how carefully the girl is peeking out.

Hmmm, I dunno if it's just me, but I don't like how everything kind of runs together. It's good, but on your level it's mediocre, but that's amazing on everyone elses level, lol

That's a good point it's good to have something from every stage of your development!

I'm not afraid to criticize because I know you thrive off of it, aaaaaaaaaand because you know I think all your stuff simply ROCKS! haha

Hmmm, thank you?????lol Yes, thank you.
It was done a number of years ago. I think it has too many 'small parts' that run together and too much of the same brown/red-brown.

It isn't one of my best, but I thought it would sort of fill in my history, so to speak. Thanks for not being afraid to say something negative.

Thank you. I had trouble with it trying to swing between being too muted or too wild. It seemed like it had a very narrow range that it needed to rest in.

Yeah! New art from GS!!

Nice work! Most people that I see paint snow white, which it very rarely is. You have captured the surrounding colors well, but what makes the piece (for me) is the little girl behind the tree. There is a story in there, somewhere!

Oils are so much fun to work with! I love the colors in the tree, and the way that you have rendered the foreground!

Okay, I've answered everyone's but yours and wolf02. I saved the two of you for last because you both always have such interesting things to say. I thought when I started seeing your comments about new art that you had no idea what was coming. I probably should have waited and submitted a few of those later. lol. But James is going to be in town this weekend and next week, so I won't have much time and I wanted to get it in.

No, snow isn't really all white, and winter is perhaps the most colorful season when all those browns and golds, and tans and grays aren't covered up with what is almost a single shade of green!

There is definitely a story there-don't know what it is-she just appeared and disappeared, just like the bird. *sigh* Such is life.

I DO love the richness of oil. It was my first love, from it's scent to it's feel, to it's look.

I love oil painting myself! Uhm, let me rephrase that. I, too, love oil painting!

If I could get some decent photographs of my canvases, perhaps I would post some of them. My Icon is from a 3x5 foot portrait I did of Aslan after rereading the C.S. Lewis Narnia series.

Keep up the great work. I was delighted to see all that new work coming at once, and was online whenever you started posting. At first, I was saying, "cool," then, it was, "coolcool," and it kinda progressed from there!

lol, You had me rolling in the floor with your opening comments each time. Aslan, great. I love Aslan. He looks like Aslan, now that you mention it. My DA ID I took with a photo, so if you get them stood up and have your camera steady and straight you should be able to get some decent enough shots for regular submissions. (probably not prints, but..........)

There are so many colors. I never would've thought to put so many different colors in white snow or even bark of a tree for that matter. The sky too. It makes it look stormy and cold, but the nice green grass makes it look pleasant.
bravo!

I may have gotten carried away with the tree, it seems I'm always trying to push and play with color. I had a teacher, and a friend, a long time ago that introduced me to the idea of the number of colors you could use with snow. Before that I was a 'put down white paint' person.
