Happy Mother's Day everyone! I'm carrying on last years theme of dedicating this piece to a specific kind of parent like in my previous Father's day artwork. This year's piece is dedicated to all the mom's who although they have passed on are still always with us whether they be in the leaf-filled wind or an heirloom they handed down.I lost my mom in August last year. This will be my first Mother's Day without her. So this piece says something very personal, both because my mom and I had a very strong, shared love of Disney, and because I really do believe she is still here with me just like Pocahontas' mom was with her.
To all of you, whether your mom is there with you in body or in spirit, I wish you a Happy, happy Mother's Day.

This is a gorgeous tribute to your Mom, and a deeply touching piece for all mothers! You've really captured every powerful emotion, and the serene, comforted smile on Pocahontas' face is so moving! I love the colors, the textures, and the movement of the wind, guided by the spirit of her mother. It's just gorgeous and carries so much meaning.Β

Thanks, Hl. I'll admit it was a little tough, especially since people really like to go all out with the decorations and reminders that it's Mother's Day. But I've still got the rest of my family to celebrate with. And that makes everything a whole lot easier to deal with. All I can really say about it all is that I'm glad I'm not alone in it.
That's sweet. I like to think that she's proud of me, too. Although I know I've still got quite a long ways to go to actually deserve proud parent status.
Yeah. The Aristocats was one of her favorites. I really contemplated doing a piece for that, but Pocahontas just had more of a message I was trying to send.Β

Although the short stuff is appreciated it's nice to get a little more feedback than "cool". Which is something you are fabulous at doing. You always let me know exactly what you like about it, what you noticed, and it really shows that you care, which is something I know every creative person appreciates.

I'm certain she is! I know us kids always worry we may never do enough, but I think all parents are proud of their children no matter what. Despite personal differences and choices, I believe your mother is super happy for you and proud of all the accomplishments you've made, and those you will make some day. And you deserve it, too. (Aww, I meet so few people who remember The Aristcats and that's awesome it was your Mom's favorite Disney film. She has good taste; you both do.)
Always my pleasure, my dear! I like to look closely at artwork, because I know all the effort and thought put into works (especially yours, you always seem to have these wonderful, tiny details and stories just waiting to be spied) so it's the least I could do to applaud those efforts, pointing out what I enjoy and take away from the gorgeous pieces. Me too. I mean, I know her movie wasn't historically accurate and that's why a lot of people say they didn't like it. But I honestly think it was just a beautiful movie with great lessons. And also like you said, the colors, they are mind-blowingly gorgeous and definitely one of the main reasons I like Pocahontas.
