how beautiful. this is so well balanced, the shapes and the light and colors - all create a fantastic composition.

I love this.
I don't love VUE... it crashes my computer too much for me to love it... but I love what you've done with it here.
It's just random enough to feel natural.

Thanks!
You know, my Vue almost never crashes. I have maybe 1 crash every week or so, but I use it a lot, normally several hours per day. In my experience, here are some of the most important factors to have few crashes:
Your system:
1) have a Windows, not a Mac
2) have a 64 bit system, not 32
3) have plenty of RAM (minimum 6GB)
4) have one of the tested (by e-on) and recommended graphic boards, preferably an Nvidia, not ATI or others
5) have a light antivirus, preferably a free one, not McAfee or Norton (never Norton!)
6) keep your system clean, with CCleaner or TuneUp or one of the many other tools for that
7) keep your system light, avoid use of lots of widgets and other unnecessary stuff
In Vue:
8) have the "Infinite" version of Vue
9) in Vue, activate the small preview window only if and when you need it, don't have it on by default
10) if you have heavy scenes, in Vue's options reduce the number of undos to 2
11) VERY IMPORTANT: in Vue's options, experiment with OpenGL 2.1 (shader 4) and OpenGL (fixed hardware pipeline) - depending on the systems you may have more or less crashes with one or the other
Hope that helps and have fun!

Excellent reply! Thank you.
From what you have here, I can see 4 things I need to change; my system is messy, I keep the preview open, I have lots of undo, I've never even tried to optimize my shader or graphics pipeline.
I'll definitely try out your suggestions... I do love the way Vue handles light and atmosphere.

Lovely scene. I think you have achieved your intention perfectly. It looks so real, and yet, at the same time, so unreal. Simply PERFECT

WOW Did you use the Cloud physics ? The new feature on vue 9.5

ArthurBlue In reply to GiulioDesign94 [2011-08-27 15:46:59 +0000 UTC]
Thanks Giulio. No, I didn't use that. I used an old technique that I used many times in the past: the clouds are set to "dissolve near objects" and I have some big spheres in strategic spots to eliminate clouds where I don't want them. The spheres are hidden from render, of course.

Ohhh this is so sweet yet somehow the composition would have been done a bit of justice if the trees wouldn't have been so obviously equally apart or close to each other :/ Packs of trees... no?
