Description Update [2019-01-12]: A few years ago I improved this recreation, which looks closer to the original (probably as close as you can get). Here is a link:

Short description: A recreation of the L.M.S. Explorer from the game Lego Rock Raiders

Hi,

this is a POV-Ray render of a L.M.S. Explorer model, which I finished two years ago.
Basicly the idea began even almost three years ago, when I started playing Rock Raiders again and saw this ship in the intro.
My first thought was: "Awesome! I wonder, if someone managed to build and upload a picture of a recreation of a 1:1 version"
I didn't find a big version, so I decided to make my own.

The building process looked like this (ultra short summary):
-During the whole project: Watching and analyzing the intro and one of the both outro versions over and over; including still frames of the video (resolution: 320*240 pixels)
-using LDD (Lego Digital Designer)
-around 18000 bricks LDD became unstable, so I used LeoCAD
-using LeoCAD (in the beginning it was fast, but it became very slow and unstable too, but at least it stable enough to almost complete it)
-During the process bugs like slighty displaced bricks were occuring, too, but it was okay.

This version misses some things like the teleporter and the evelator at the back of the bridge. I could correct those mistakes, but LeoCAD is so slow, that only MLCAD would be
an option, but I don't really like the controls of this program.

If you want to read a longer version of the construction process and want to see more pictures, I recommend my original thread on RRU (RockRaidersUnited):
www.rockraidersunited.org/topi…

Random statistics:
Length: 975 studs/ 773,44 cm/ 304,51 in.
Width: 134 studs/ 106,38 cm/ 41,88 in.
Height: 133 studs/ 104,93 cm/ 41,31 in.
pieces: 57.397 (it's only the hull)
construction time: ~10 months (2010-2011)

Other notes:
Personally I like the overall shape of this spaceship, but the main problem is the small amount of details.

wow that is an impressive MOC, nice work i getting it to 1:1 scale i'd say worthy of a 'master builder' (i don't know anything about lego rock raiders so i can't comment on accuracy lol)

Thanks, one of my main goals was to recreate the spaceship as accurate as possible, which is easier, when the original one is actually made out of (digital) bricks : D.
As far as I know there are a few magazines out there, which have some high-res shots of the L.M.S. Explorer, but when I made that project, I didn't know about that (despite the fact, that they were from ~2000).
My main sources were two videos from the computer game, which I analysed in-depth:
Intro:

Outro No. 1:

The only problem: they are only available in 240p ^^ (and there aren't videos with a higher resolution out there), which made things more difficult, but not impossible.
