Description

Hello everybody!

This is my fourth map in my series based of AFSNES, a collaborative alternate history map-game hosted in Civ Fanatics Forum many years ago.

After my second-to-last map, where I detailed the entire history of Tartessos, a celtic/iberian city founded in late 13th Century BC, once TTL’s mightiest empire in Europe, I decided to make a more detailed map depicting Tartessos’ greatest extent, during the Arganthine Dominate (a military autocracy disguised as a bureaucratic Empire) in TTL’ 475 AD, after the conquest and consolidation of Gaul and Italy. This map in fact is a remake of my last map, as I found that the "map" part was too small compared to the text, so I resized it up, and added a smaller "Cultures" map.

The zenith of the Tartessian civilization arrived as Dominos Kostanthios IV, seeking to bring back the glory of the anciet Tartessian state, squeezed every ounce of military power out of the Dominate, and taking advantage of the general weakness of his neighbours, decided to expand in every direction. Gaul was wrestled from the Celtic Kingdom of Arecome and the various Tartars and Germanics tribes that roamed the countryside; Italia, once Tartessos’ most prized colony and now mostly in the hands of the Athanoi Horse-lords, was swiftly conquered; The mountain Kingdom of Liguria was subdued and forced to lick its wounds. Dominos Kostanthios IV died in 462 AD, believing having resurrected the Dominate glories.

Despite being the zenith of the Tartessian civilization, with its nearest enemies dead or subdued, the Dominate would prove to be a giant with feet of clay; Heavy taxation, economical devastation from previous wars, societal disgregation cause by conflict between the state and foreign but widely followed religions (Ashaism and Agade Dag), would eventually undermine the foundations of the state. The last straw would be the invasion by the Watchurian Empire, a Egyptian-based Nubian Ashaist successor state that would manage to create an all-Mediterranean-encompassing state; it’s armies would broke the camels’ back, and the Dominate would fell, just a few years after its greatest successes.

As I already detailed in my previous maps write-up, do mind that the scenario depicted is not my creation, and I had a minimal contribution in its creation (I was one of the many players involved); The main “culprit” was the moderator of AFSNES, Das, that coordinated the player efforts into as realistic as possible way; the other principal creative force behind this timeline was Insane-Panda, the players actually behind Tartessos. The other players involved in this part of the world will be detailed in the Credits.

Please enjoy my new map! Any feedback is appreciated.
