If I may be so bold as to speak, I believe that microsoft is offering compensation on top of repairing/replacing units that suffer from this defect. But it's been a while since I've last helped someone with reporting this, so my information may be outdated.

*ahem* Seeing as how we have already cracked our casing open and have heavily removed and added parts, we believe that Microsoft might not be so understanding in compensation. But fear not: we have found a solution and are awaiting the replacement part as we speak! Huzzah!
